Beast... just adding it in case this report goes south and where the report of the inaccuracy may have come from. Tom is the only one reporting that it is a done deal.

Also I missed your point of your first sentence... or are you just explaining why I added the question mark?

I highly doubt this is a surprise to anyone, especially with T.J. Lang waiting in the wing. I can also imagine a scenario that features Derek Sherrod kicking inside and playing guard. Plus, the team is high on Nick McDonald.

The Packers have too many options, which is among many reasons why Colledge isn’t returning. Of course, his level of play not living up to his second-round status is front and center, but I don’t see this as a huge omission.

Friggin' Brady has been hiding behind a great line for what seems like decades, imo, and he is considered the "best in rhe business"

My ass... His LINE was, not so especially him.

I'm not shedding any tears over this. That said, I'm thankful for his years of contribution to the team.

Colledge got hurt early, Spitz came in and sucked (he wasn't recovered from that back injury)... then the pulled Spitz and put in Lang.... Lang didn't suck but one of the coaches (OL or OC) said something like all of the linemen had a losing grade that game.

Also I think Lang regressed last offseason because he couldn't work out because of a surgery so this is his first healthy full offseason.... so maybe he'll improve greatly. One thing I think Lang does do great is pull and/or get to the second level... he's like an over sized FB... he moves very well when on the move... also that means he should be good at screens if he can get the DL to bite on it.

For the record, I have been very critical of T.J. Lang. In fact, I would not be shocked if he doesn't make the team. He definitely regressed last season, but Colledge displays the inconsistencies of a rookie. You can only tolerate so much.

My guess is that the coaching staff sees clearly that Derek Sherrod is one of the five best lineman and they kick him inside to guard to get him on the field. I'd also add that the offensive line was better last year. It wasn't great, but it was good enough and I think the running game is going to improve. Brandon Jackson had holes to run though. He wasn't hitting them decisively as James Starks did and Ryan Grant can. Actually, I would go as far to say that Scott Wells and Josh Sitton was among the best center/guard combos in the NFC last year.

I would be more concerned about Chad Clifton lasting through 19-20 games than the departure of an inconsistent guard.

either that or a reporter just trying to be first with a story.

I will say that the management decisions of this team do leave me scratching my head sometimes. The Packers make a kicker who consistently ranks in the bottom 5 in field goal accuracy and only notched 4 touchbacks all year the second highest paid kicker in the league, but they won't even extend an offer to an inconsistent, mediocre lineman who has never missed a game in his career? Strange.

Obviously, I am not arguing that the Packers should retain Colledge. I just fail to find consistency in their patterns of when and how they decide to extend offers to veterans.
