The Packers will report to Lambeau Field on Friday collectively as a team and their first training camp practice of the 2011 season is scheduled for Saturday night.

That also means the fans can start making their plans. Packers Family Night is Aug. 6 with tickets on sale now ($10 to get in, $5 to park). The activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with football drills starting at 6:30 p.m.. Information can be found at www.packers.com.

“The Packers are excited for the opening of training camp and to be preparing for the season,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy in a statement. “We’re especially looking forward to Family Night and having the defending champions in Lambeau Field for the first time this season. With the unique offseason, the format for training camp and in the interest of player safety, the football portion of the evening will be more of a practice-like setting, but will still have plenty of action and full-team drills.

The team also said the entire training camp schedule is being finalized and will be released in the next day or so. We will pass that information on, including the open practices to the fans, as soon as we get it.

Murphy also mentioned in a press conference today that the Packers have been in contact with the White House and are trying to schedule a date in August to visit President Barack Obama as the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Ok, I heard they weren't going to scrimmage, but that's just this year due to the strike. LOL. I thought that was some sort of weird permanent change.

So glad that the lockout is ending and the football is starting. The news is going to come fast and furious over the next couple weeks.

After all of this nonsense, things are going to proceed pretty much as usual. I'm glad I didn't waste my energy getting angry about it. I figured I would hold off on that till July, and by the time July rolled around, it was apparent that they were moving toward a deal.

I'm already looking forward to watching the Family Night scrimmage on TV. Sam Shields took it by storm last year, with that amazing pick-six. Maybe one of our rookies will make a splash again this year.
