While I prefer the offense to run the short and medium passing routes as they will typically have a higher completion rate, the only way to keep the defense honest and not crowd in too close is to run the long routes on a consistent basis.

Aaron Rodgers may not have had the highest % of long completions but he had the most long receptions at 33. Rivers was 2nd at 32.

All in all it shows that GB had nice mix of shorter and longer passes and that they were extremely effective in their approach.
I guess that means that Mike and Aaron knew what they were doing and then did it.

Obviously what they were doing was good enough to win the SB. I just think they threw deep more often than they should. I think it stunted the offense to some degree and killed drives at times.

Perhaps. And perhaps it was working the kinks out of their system.

I don't know if the above stats are for the regular season or the entire year including playoffs.

NFL.com  shows that 21 of 132 (15.9%) passes went for 20 yards or more but that doesn't say if that is 20 yards in the air or if YAC is included which I suspect it is. No one else had more than 7 20+ plays. (Cutler)
At 16% it would slightly less than the 18% quoted in the original story above if both are pre YAC. The playoff % of 20+ yard passes would have dropped off noticably if those 21 receptions includes YAC.

Looks like including playoffs. The article shows 607 attempts, NFL.com shows 475 regular season attempts and 132 post-season attempts, which add up to 607.

edit: overall, I thought the stats show we have a pretty productive deep passing game, comparatively, and my main concern would go back to the offensive line and them providing enough time to throw deep. Given the amount we did, it looks like the offensive line was doing a fairly good job of protecting Aaron.

So all the drops don't concern you? Our offense does seem to be quite productive compared to most others.

Nerd-of course the drops concern me (we were talking about them earlier in the thread), but I look at that as an execution thing. As far as play calling went, I thought Mike McCarthy tailored his offense against the opposing teams defensive weaknesses pretty well, and I was overall happy with his selection. I thought he did a pretty good job--especially toward the end of the year--mixing up the offense (runs, short passes, deep passes) to keep the defenses off balance.

As far as those drops go, now, I think the receivers just need to work on their pad level...

Zero2Cool (13h) : Didn't they have a thing in 2023 for Jimmy's ring of honor? I swear I saw it
beast (14h) : Though if they're legitimately trying to re-sign MM, then it makes sense.
beast (14h) : Jerry Jones still hasn't put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor, but he's in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Jones is petty
Mucky Tundra (8-Jan) : Unless the Cowboys are planning an extension, seems kinda petty

Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product

Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : didn't have guys in his face ... pressure makes difference
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Where was this Darnold vs GB?
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : BALL DON'T LIE
