Outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene said Arizona DE Ricky Elmore will play outside linebacker in the 3-4 and he expects him to compete well for a job.
Here are some highlights of Greene's interview:
* On why he thinks he's still there: "He's highly productive. I don't know why last he lasted this long. I'm really not sure."
* On his 4.88 40-yard dash time: "I think that time is absolutely fine with the things that we do. When we require our OLBs to carry people we have help over the top."
* On what you notice about his play: "Motor, effort, heart, passion. A lot of things I preach to my kids all the time. He has a big heart. You can accomplish a lot when you have a big heart."
* On whether heart is enough: "If you think about it, if a guy is driven with athletic ability but has an empty hole in the middle of his chest where his heart should be he's not going to have the passion to make the plays."
* On how much the others benefit from Clay Matthews: "That's a good question. Clay is not the only pass rusher on the team. Cullen jenkins played really well. B.J. Raji and some other people putting we're putting pressure on the quarterback. The guys I had at theother position, they have a heart. They're going to make things happen."
* On what you look for in a transition from end to OLB: "I look at his physicality. I ook at his ability to run and move and hunt. that's what I want. I want to see a guy go sideline to sideline and when a guy runs at him I like to see how he does that. I gauge what I see in lateral movement and his ablity to do things in backpedal and side shuffle."
* On what Elmore needs to do to succeed: "I think if he comes in and listens to me, he'll be fine."
* On whether heart can make up for talent: "I think heart compensates for a lot."
* On competition at ROLBt: "It's wide open. I love all my kids. I can't begin to speculate at this point. It's going to be very competitive. That's going to be one of things I'm going to touch on when we get back. This is good for Frank and Brad and Erik. It's good for my whole crew."
