Our team is stacked. We have great depth at most positions and a good balance of veterans (Clifton, Woodson, Driver), players in their primes (Rodgers, Jennings, Tramon, Hawk), and talented young players (Matthews, Bulaga, Sitton, Raji, Finley, Shields).

My questions is do we have room on our roster for a full rookie draft class? Which players do we cut or get rid of in order to facilitate the addition of 5-8 rookies?

I can see possibly adding players on the o-line, d-line, and at CB, but not 5-8.

Am I off-base here, or will Ted decide to go with quality (trading up) in order to avoid cutting some talented players like we had to last year (I believe 5 of the players we from our final 53 last year ended up on other teams)

What's your opinion on this good(?) problem?

hard to trade up with having the bottom pick of each round, even harder that without a CBA we can't package players (Barnett).

I don't think Ted's approach to this draft will be any different than in previous years. If the opportunity presents itself to trade up, he'll do it, but he will not be pushing to do that, because he believes that when you start pushing like that, you make mistakes.

Although only a small number of new players may be likely to make the roster, there is nothing wrong with drafting just as many or even more than usual, because the more players you have to start out with, the better your chances of finding a diamond in the rough. Look what they got out of Sam Shields, and he wasn't even drafted.

I expect about 4-5 drafted players to make the team this year.
I won't be surprised if the following are not on the team next season:
Barnett, Jones, Tauscher, Jenkins, Bigby, Poppinga, Hall, Swain, Bell and Briggs.

It hurts a little not being able to package players, but those kinds of trades aren't that common in the NFL anyway--at least not on draft day. Having the bottom pick in each round is obviously not favorable for trading, but it's not a huge disadvantage. Just look at it this way: It's like the Packers don't have a first round pick, but they have the first pick in rounds two through seven, and an extra one at the end of the draft. All picks are worth something, therefore all of them are potential trade bait.

This is a good start, but we've got about 10 players not mentioned here coming off IR that have a decent chance to stick. So, even with all these guys gone, we're at about 58, + 4-5 rookies + 1-2 undrafted players that usually stick, we're looking at about 63 min, about 10 over the current max!

With all the guys coming back from IR this is going to be a crazy year. I'm going to go out on a limb and say next year the Packers will have a decent amount of players on IR again, as they have shown a willingness to shut a guy down and put him on IR to make room for someone who is ready to play now.

Looking back at last year, do we have 15 players end up on IR if we had a worse roster? I dont think we do, I think the front office is more willing to wait it out with a few guys, namely Grant and Finley.

It will certainly be an interesting offseason(if it ever starts).

I was not my intent to name every single player who would not be on the roster in 2011.

I wasn't trying to "call you out" or something, just noting the massive amount of players that will be fighting for spots.

beast (8h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (8h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (18h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (18h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (20h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (21h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22h) : Thank you
wpr (22h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.

Zero2Cool (22h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (23h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (23h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (23h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (23h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (23h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
