My honest opinion on him hasn't changed.

The reason I miss Favre. Rodgers has had a good year. But I'm still looking for that signature drive. That defining drive. He's had chance after chance. Whereas Favre took the team to tie the game against Oakland with no timeouts from the 5 yard line (should have won in OT if Baker didn't fall on his face), the Chiefs game and now this. TWO beautiful "game-winning" drives.

With Rodgers it will come with time. But right now he isn't "that" QB. He's had chances against Tampa, Atlanta, Titans and Vikings (and those are 4 loses).

He's had a decent year because statistically he's played well. But in terms of wins and losses and clutch, he's average at best.

And why does everyone have a need to defend him or make excuses for him when so many people get worked up at people that make excuses or defend Favre. Sure the O-line isn't the greatest. But he also holds on to the ball for WAY too long. It's the same O-line and RB from last year but Favre has an uncanny ability to sense pressure and make quick decisoins.

"It was a combination of we didn't do the fundamentals the way we know how to and me probably holding the ball a little too long," Rodgers said. "They did a great job. You've got to give them credit."

He's said it himself. But now someway, somehow he will probably be praised to "taking the blame".

All I'm saying is be objective. Everytime someone mentions the "o-line", you should also mention Rodgers holding on to the ball too much.

If I am not mistaken just last week Rodgers did drive the Packers down field for the winning FG. It was not his fault that Crosby kicked wide right. The drive may not have been an 80 yarder but he got them into FG position despite the conservative play calling. On that series the QB did his job. There were serveral other drives just before the half in other games that he got them into scoring position only to have Crosby choke under the pressure.

cmon guys lets not make this a Rodgers vs Brett thread the later is gone and there is nothing we can do about it. We are stuck with the kid so lets just live with it and stop the comparing.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Well, I'll go on record saying I don't mind being "stuck with the kid."

Over the balance of one year you have something to compare something too.

Over the balance of five to ten years you've got no comparison because the other guys got no numbers which to me is extremely important vs. wishing we had a guy that could produce like the kid we are are stuck with now but don't because we were "stuck" on what we could do in 2008.

rodgers is doing his job people - a helluva lot better than ALOT of nfl qb's. clearly that puts him above average. may sound fundamental but it's the plain & simple truth.

Can you please explain what that means? Can you point to where you think I havn't been objective about Favre (assuming that is what you are eluding to).

People arn't objective about Rodgers, its true. The guy stinks it up in Minnesota and there was a Rodgers appreciation thread. He stands in the pocket too long and takes unnecessary hits and he gets a thread about how tough he is. He is certainly tough, I will give him that. He has taken big hits and got up and sure the O-line has sucked beyond sucked. But Rodgers deserves blame too, he holds on to the ball too long. And some of those hits are avoidable if he senses the pressure or moves out of the pocket. I'd rather have someone that can sense the pressure than someone that is "tough" and takes unnecessary hits.

He's "way above average" in this thread when he's 4-5 on a team that was 13-3 last year with only one major change in the offence. And couldn't lead the team to a come back with the ball in his hand against Tampa, Atlanta, Tennessee and Minnesota. I will edit this because I guess it depends on what you define as "way above average". To me its a top QB in the league, like top 7 in a 32 QB league but if its beyond that then, I guess he is there.

And oh please that he led them to the game winning drive against the Vikings but Crosby messed it up. They started the drive on the 42 yard line I think with over 2 minutes left and you end up with a 53 yard field goal? Come on, I think thats grasping at straws.

Yes, he has exceeded expectations and is having a great year statiscally. He is doing way better than I thought he would given the circumstances and pressure he's had. YES, I know about his "QB Rating". I also know that (heading into the 2007 season) Dan Marino had a career QB rating of 86, Brady has 88 or 89, John Elway had 80, Bart Starr had 80. And Daunte Culpepper had 90. Does that mean anything?

http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/story.jsp?story_id=2356

In an ideal world he goes out there and proves me wrong and we're back on track for the playoffs.

BUT lets wait until we "crown" him. He still can't seem to make quick decisions, he doesn't have good pocket presence, etc. And also its MM's fault. He plays too conservative. Let the kid open it up more. We have JENNINGS! At the end of the day, he is a very capable starting QB in the NFL. In a league where Culpepper is starting and Brad Johnson is starting and Gus is starting, etc. He is very capable and has potential. I think the future is bright for this team and him. But right now he hasn't showed it IMO and I think people are giving him a bit too much credit and not enough criticism. It's like watching the media coverage of Obama sometimes.

Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : i'm not sure who i'm thinking of now

Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Jordan Davis was 13th overall
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Carter was 9th overall
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles had 15th and 10th selections, moved to 13 and 9 to get Davis and Carter back to back
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
