If only Barnett still had his twitter account.

I think they'll probably get something for him or they should be able to do so. Maybe a 4th round pick, which is solid value. I also can't imagine the Packers being in any rush to release him. He isn't due a roster bonus as far as I know and the draft is less than two months away. I would take my time in scoping the field.

Yeah, Barnett has said he's done with Twitter at least twice now that I know of, yet he's back tweeting a day or so later. It's hilarious. Why say you're deleting your account and such if you never actually do??

I don't think I'm going to be too sad to see him gone.

Wishy-washy forum.

AJ Hawk really didn't change his play style a lot when looking at how he played last year. Or the rest of his career. Solid tackling machine who isn't an impact player.

Last year, he had to be kicked out for Bishop to step him, right now, he's some kind of messiah.

Barnett has gone from a 3-time Pro Bowl snub to an overpaid, injury prone average player who's worth nothing more than a sixth...

Just to put it in context, since then, he made some awkward comments on Twitter (can't even call them bad) and has had 1 injury since his last Pro Bowl worthy season and 2 in his entire career.

Colledge went from hopeful, to whipping boy, to solid LG when he came back this year and played well, to overrated whipping boy again now that he's made some little saying comment on his Facebook.

Wow.

Where have you been? Exaggeration much? No one thinks Hawk is a "messiah." If you read through the other thread, most people were hesitant to even calling him "solid." Other say that he is good. I still remember a few times throughout the playoffs where he got owned. However, it's not about any single player, it's about finding the right combination and chemistry that works the best, and many think that Hawk / Bishop is that combination (which apparently, so does our front office).

Also, it's not that Barnett isn't WORTH more than a 6th, it's just that, realistically speaking, it's hard to believe we could get much more than that for someone we would likely release anyway. I'd love to keep him around as a primary backup, but just don't see that happening. Add that with the fact that he makes some interesting comments and more than likely wouldn't be happy as a backup, he's as good as gone. As I said above, I can't say I'd be that sad to see him go. There's nothing I can do about it, so I might as well accept it. I think he could be a solid contributor to a 4-3 team and would LOVE it if some team values him enough to give a 4th round pick. But a 29-30 year old LBer that has only been average in the 3-4 and has also had some bad luck with injuries just isn't going to be much trade bait. I truly hope I'm wrong, but it seems unlikely.

As for Colledge, well, I don't think I have to explain myself here. The guy is an average, SOMETIMES slightly above average player, who doesn't appear to be happy without a contract. Nothing wrong with that, but it just doesn't seem like he fits into the Packers big picture. Another player that I think can be replaced and definitely is not one that I would miss a whole lot. If the front office thinks he's worth a long term deal, great. But it's pretty obvious they don't and I don't blame them. Decent player, but it's not possible to keep every decent player that moves through a team.

I'm not seeing much "wishy-washyness" at all. I see people that are glad to see our best options retained for the foreseeable future. As been mentioned, Hawks availability is huge and Capers scheme's seem to fit Hawk / Bishops play very well. There's better players out there, but not on our team. Until that time, many of us are satisfied maintaining the core of our borderline dominant defense.

Molder - you didn't mention that the oft-injured twitter diva is also scheduled to make 5.5 mil this year.

I don't think anyone is saying Hawk is a messiah or perennial PB candidate, but he did prove to be a respectable option next to Bishop...nothing sexy, but no major screw ups, plus a good locker room guy.

Nick Barnett Twooter account

I think a 4th would be very good for him for us. I think he's been productive, but when I see him tackle, it seems he's always falling down with the player he's tackling, rather than actually TACKLING them. Make sense?

Heh. And you wonder why I started harping on people who thought the world was going to end because we had no running game. There are probably well over 100 statements made that say we cannot win in the Playoffs/Super Bowl without a running game.

This forum is emo. :cyclopsani:
(but it its defense, I think all sports nuts are somewhat deranged, except for Dutch fans. They're level headed).

Back to topic, Nick Barnett is actually pretty good as a MLB in a 4-3. He doesn't fit in a 3-4. I'd love to see us get a draft pick and will wish him well on his next team (unless he's playing us).

Thank you doddpower, for that thorough response to Rockmolder. I would not have had time to write all of that.

I hadn't heard anyone refer to Hawk as a "messiah" either. I called him "very good," though. (Jesus was very good too, and he had long hair, so there you go, I guess.)

I like Barnett, and if we didn't have Hawk and Bishop he would be starting, and I would be fine with that. Hawk and Bishop are both better than him, though, and the team is not going to want to keep Barnett as a backup earning starter's money and unhappy about sitting the bench. Because of that, his trade value is less than it would be if he were a starter.

This forum is probably no more wishy-washy than most others. There are hundreds of people here, all with different opinions, and things change quickly in the NFL. That's why it's called the Not For Long league.

It's pretty simple. The Packers have won a lot of games without Barnett thanks to Bishop coming on.

Barnett, however, is still a good football player and can help another team.

A scenario I have not heard would be to make a trade during the draft to move down in a round. I would think a team that needs an inside LB would swap say a 12th to 15th pick for the #32 and Barnett in the 3rd round IF there is a player there Thompson likes.

Why would a team do this and not just wait until the Packers release Barnett? Because there would be 31 teams that have a shot at signing him.

For a team that needs players to end up with Barnett and still get a 3rd round pick it would be a sweet deal and probably better for the Packers if all they could get was a 6th. I say this because 6th round picks may find making the roster this year pretty tough.

I hear you on the time thing. That's my biggest problem with forums and the main reason I don't post much. I read things, have ideas, and want to post, just simply don't have, or won't make, the time to reply. I'm generally on the forums during my work day during my free time, which isn't much. However, what time I can make, I barely have enough time to read through the posts!
