It still is, and I believe it will continue to all offseason until next year's preseason and the annual SB predictions come up. I still just absolutely cannot believe it.

The only bad thing is all of the additional Packers fans that I see now. Annoys the hell out of me. It's like you can practically see them dusting off their Packers gear, OR they just went and bought it. I suppose they think that of me, too though. That's the problem. In 2008, I was still wearing my gear proudly through the 6-10 season after Favre had left.

I know that's not what this thread was about so I apologize if it changes it's direction. It is just one of the things that has made it more real for me, because I see changes.

Yeah it's weird. In '96, we were also predicted to win it all, but we never really faltered. We had that one game iirc against the Colts where we got blown out, and we did have some major injuries. We lost Robert Brooks and Ken Ruetgers retired. But then, just as Harold Green fell out of the sky, so did Andre Rison.
Just seems different, though. We were clear favorites the whole season that year. Not so this year, really. We barely made the playoffs.
Maybe it was different, because we were coming off of 30 years of shit suckage. Right now we're coming up on 20 years of being good.

I've thought about this before too. A lot. How we're so lucky that Rodgers is as talented as he is. And how it will be even more lucky if we have somebody like that when he leaves/retires. I don't like the thought of not being good for a significant period of time, as opposed to having a 2008 season then bouncing back.

The loss to the Colts was in '97, not '96, and I don't think it was a blowout. It was a high scoring game, as I recall. Reggie White got shut down by (gulp!) Tony Mandarich. And it's Howard Green, not Harold Green.

I never had the feeling of "here we go again" when we failed to score a TD and had to kick off with way too much time left. I felt like the D was going to step up like they did for the last 6 games. Conditioned response.

Yeah, that was the difference between this year and the previous two years. Although the Packers did lose some close games, and the defense gave up some points late in some of those losses, it was laregly because they were put into bad situations. This time, the Steelers had to drive over 80 yards for a TD, so I knew there was a good chance that the defense would hold. There was another part of me, though, that was already imagining how sick I would be if the story of the Super Bowl turned out to be a "miraculous" Ben Roethlisberger comeback.

I have been reading complaints online by people saying this was largely an unmemorable Super Bowl because there was no such miraculous comeback. Apparently only Super Bowls in which unknown receivers make improbable catches are considered great.

I don't understand what they are complaining about. It is as though they want to be bored for three or three-and-a-half quarters and then thrilled in the end with an amazing play. I would rather have excitement throughout the game. This game had that in spades. It was an incredible emotional rollercoaster. The first quarter was unbelievably thrilling, the second quarter was taut, the third quarter was agonizing, the fourth quarter was nail biting, and the end was explosive. I don't see how anyone could call it boring.
