Giants: Sims,Hostetler (I had to look him up) little Manning.
I was certain the Raiders were too. I forgot Pluckett had 2 wins.

The Vikings- Oh wait, Never mind. :onfloor:

Very good. I completely overlooked the Giants. My next guess would've been Raiders. Funny that Plunkett doesn't get a lot of credit for winning two Super Bowls. Not that he necessarily deserves it, but usually everyone makes a bigger deal out of a QB winning two Super Bowls (Ben R., for example).

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

XV

Plunkett was signed by Oakland to be their backup quarterback, and thus he did not see much playing time, throwing no passes in 1978 and just 15 passes in 1979. But after the Raiders started the 1980 season with a 2-3 record, starter Dan Pastorini broke his leg and suddenly Plunkett was thrust into the starting role. The 33-year old Plunkett got off to a bad start, throwing 5 interceptions in a 31-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs after relieving Pastorini. However, he recovered and led the Raiders to victory in 9 of their last 11 games in the season, qualifying for the playoffs as a wild card team. Plunkett made 165 out of 320 pass completions for 2,299 yards, 18 touchdown passes, and was intercepted 15 times. He also contributed 141 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

Technically Jim can be called a back in 1983. But he bagan the year as the starter.
Marc Wilson

In the 1980 NFL Draft, Wilson was selected by the Oakland Raiders. He was a backup to Jim Plunkett on the Raiders' 1980 championship team, then led the team in passing in 1981 before throwing only two passes as a backup to Plunkett in the strike-shortened 1982 season, the team's first in Los Angeles. He took over for Plunkett as the starter midway through the 1983 season but was injured two games later; Plunkett returned and lead the Raiders to victory in Super Bowl XVIII in January of 1984.

I think it qualifies too, but it raises an interesting question. Do the Ravens count as the Browns? Though the name and colors stayed in Cleveland, the history and lineage (including championships, etc.) went with them to Baltimore.

"wpr" wrote:

No. I was watching the NFL channel a couple of nights ago. Cleveland went to court to sue to block the move and in the settlement. (Out of court but in the commissioners office I believe) the team got to move but the name, team colors and records all remained in Cleveland. The Commish agreed to place the next expansion team in Cleveland.

WPR is right. Cleveland's history, lineage, and records officially stayed in Cleveland. So, record and history wise, the Ravens first year in the league was in 1996. As for Cleveland, they went into what they called officially a "deactivation" period.

Oops, I misread the article. You're right -- it was just the players and contracts that migrated to Baltimore.

The man who holds the NFL record for most consecutive seasons with a touchdown pass never played in Green Bay.

Where did he play and when was the last time he won a Super Bowl?

Johnny U or Vinny T from the U.

Johnny might not have played as long as Favre or Vinny either.. if memory serves right Johnny has the record for most consecutive games with a TD.. I believe.

Football Hall of Fame

At the time of his retirement in 1973, Johnny Unitas, the superstar quarterback of the Baltimore Colts, held virtually every career passing record that existed in the National Football League. Since that time, some of those records have been surpassed.

One record, however, still remains and may be one of the NFL's few unbreakable records. Comparable to Joe Dimaggio's 56-game hit streak, Unitas compiled a string of 47 straight games in which he threw at least one touchdown pass.

The record has not been seriously challenged. The closest a quarterback has come is the 36-game string by Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers from 2002 to 2004. Next closest were Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins who had a 30-game streak that took place over the 1985-1987 seasons, and Seattle Seahawks' Dave Krieg (28 consecutive games from 1983-1985).

Unitas' remarkable feat began during his rookie campaign in a game against the Los Angeles Rams in 1956. Four years later and 11 games into the 1960 season, the streak finally ended against the same Rams team that the streak had begun.

So I take it he doesn't hold the record that NSD asked about.. only other QB with that many years in Vinny.

I wonder about old Mark Brunell though.. he has been around a long time as well..

I believe Mark Brunell was drafted in 1993, so that would preclude him.

You are right, though. It was Vinny Testaverde. He has some amazing accomplishments over the course of what arguably was a mediocre career.

He remains the oldest NFL quarterback to win a game and the third oldest to start a game. I believe he may be the oldest to throw a TD too, although I can't confirm that.
