I'm HOPING for 25-30 rushing attempts no matter how staunch the Stillers run D is.
If we can keep em honest and convert the 3rd and shorts on the ground it will make Rodgers job alot easier to engineer a Packers victory.

I hope for 25-30 rushing attempts too, but only because of two things.

1) No coach is dumb enough to hand the ball off 25+ times without at least decent production

2) Running the ball that much usually means the team has had a hefty lead for a lot of the game

But say we carry it 10 times with a 2.5 yard per carry average. Then I would suggest we abandon it and just let Aaron air it out.

I already went through our season.. game by game, quarter by quarter and carry by carry..

The skew with large leads was only a little over 3 carries a game with a large lead in the 4th quarter.

Im going to 'hope' for the opposite - looking for 20 or less carries this game. 15-20

Just so long as we don't get the vast majority of these carries in the third quarter with a lead, trying to run the clock out very prematurely. We need to get up early, and keep our foot on their throats.

OK, one thing to make clear - there are 32 NFL teams and all teams are different. Beating one team is different than beating another team.

Let's take a look at the Pittsburgh Steelers. They lost 4 games this year. Let's look at those games only.

Loss 1 - Baltimore Ravens passed 37 times, rushed 27 times (with 2 of those rushes by their QB)

Loss 2 - New Orleans Saints passed 40 times and rushed 21 times (with 3 of those rushing attempts Drew Brees downing the ball to end the game). The Saints only got 30 yards rushing, so I can't speak for Peyton, but if he could go back in time, he'd probably rush even less. You just don't run against the Steelers.

Loss 3 - New England Patriots passed 43 times and rushed 24 times with the Patriots single rushing TD from Tom Brady (their QB).

Loss 4 - The Jets passed 29 times and rushed 27 times with their lone rushing TD from their QB (3 attempts, one TD).

Anyone intelligent enough to figure out what these games had in common?

Well, I'll be damned.

Go Aaron!

Beautiful post, and all those games showed that the Steelers defense can be beaten by the spread offense. I don't care that they didn't have Troy last year, they have been torched with him this year. The Steelers haven't faced an offense as explosive as ours all season, except for NE, and we know how that turned out. The more I look at the match-up on Sunday the more I like our chances.

Love how you point only to the 30 yard performance of the Saints and ignoring what else the other teams had in common in the wins.

Ravens 70 yards. 1 Sack
Patriots 103 yards 0 Sacks
Jets 106 yards... on the ground. 1 Sack
Saints 30 yards... 2 sacks

Gee.. I wonder if that had any effect on the defense, pass protection and the passing game.

Now lets go through the play ratio of the opponents in the Steeler wins.

Take note of the Sacks the Steelers get in games in which the oppositions RB attempt to run more than 20 times and when they don't, even with the Panthers chipping in 4 in a single game.

Also note the percentage of passes the opposition attempted in the Steeler losses verse the Steeler Wins. 6 % less passes verse run in the Steeler losses.. NO WAY. lol.
