Sam Shields was the steal of all the rookies that came out last year. The fact that he was an undrafted free agent is somewhat shocking. Remember, Green Bay passed on him too. They managed to sign him, but there is no way they could have foreseen his impact. Keep in mind; this guy was not a very good CB in preseason. He was decent, but he had his problems. His play has improved over the course of the season and his confidence has risen as a result. The job the Packers coaching staff has done with him is amazing and his development is inspiring.
One other note I have is that Andrew Quarless is very overrated, but I have been saying this for a while now. He doesn't catch the ball very well. He is stiff in the open field and plays the game nervous in my view. He isn't very assignment sound either. His play of the year was his TD catch against the Vikings and he did drop that ball. The Vikings failed to challenge, so anything over a C is generous. Then again, we have one game to go.
