Anybody predict that a Chicago score will come off of KR or PR? I think that if they score over 20, there will be one ST TD. Otherwise, no.

Also, if you look at ST TD quickly, it looks like STD haha

Plenty of reasons to like the Bears

By Brian Baldinger
Published: January 20th, 2011

I went out on my own on the Playbook picks this week and took the Bears over the Packers for several reasons.

First off, the Bears are very unique among all the playoff teams. Defensively, they really dont change what they do for anybody. When they were blown out by the Patriots in Week 14, the Bears were criticized for playing their safeties 20 yards deep during a snowstorm, but its that same mentality that makes the Bears who they are. They dont tinker the way other teams do, and feel like what they have is solid and sound. Its the beauty of the Bears, and I agree with it.

The Bears dont have a dime or a sub package at all, and they make all of one substitution on defense when they take linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa out in favor of defensive back D.J. Moore. Linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs never come off the field, while Chris Harris, Danieal Manning and Major Wright rotate at safety. Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman play on the outside, and if the offenses go to four receivers, the Bears are confident in moving Manning down to play corner.

The Bears can get pressure with their front four, and it was evident to me during the Week 17 matchup that the Packers fear them. They were trying like hell to win that game, but rarely went to four-receiver sets because they were worried about the protection holding up. The Bears dont like to blitz, but they can. Sometimes theyll even show blitz to draw blocks and force teams into max protection. I expect Julius Peppers to go out and show everyone in this game why he was the most coveted defensive player in free agency.

The big question this week has been how theyll contain Aaron Rodgers. Well, theyve done it before, holding the Packers to just 10 points three Sundays ago by rushing the front four. They also have tremendous speed at linebacker guys who can run down any quarterback. The Bears can trust their front seven.

Another side to the equation is that the Bears, in my opinion, have the best special teams in the league. They have the best return man in Devin Hester, Peppers has blocked a field goal, and Brad Maynard and Robbie Gould are two of the most experienced kickers in the league.

And dont forget the Bears play at Solider Field, which is like playing in a barn. Players have to think about cutting and keeping their feet under them, which naturally slows things down. The Eagles, the fastest team in the league, slipped all day long in Week 12. Ive watched them put down the green seed two hours before kickoff a couple of times this season. It looks real on TV, but theres no grass in the middle of the field. The footing is slick and when its cold, the corners become frozen.

Theres also the experience factor. Lovie Smith and Mike Martz have coached in Super Bowls, Mike Tice has been around a long time, and the core of this team has also played in a Super Bowl. This game isnt too big for them, and that counts for something.

The Bears arent invincible by any means. Theyre fully capable of losing this game at home, but I see them getting it done.

These guys from No Huddle looked so serious and so intense when they make their predictions. They act like they have $1000 riding on the game.

Packers at Bears

Florios take: Ive been overlooking and underestimating the Bears all year. So why stop now? Sure, the Bears beat the Packers in Week Three. Yes, the Packers barely beat the Bears in Week 17, when the Packers needed a win to qualify for the playoffs. But the Packers are firing on all cylinders, and they look like they cant be beaten. Though they may be beaten, its impossible to pick against them after beating the Falcons by 27.

Florios pick: Packers 31, Bears 23.

Rosenthals take: This week has felt like a coronation for Aaron Rodgers as the leagues best quarterback and the Packers as the It team. Its all too perfect, which should worry Packers fans. The Bears have proven they can slow down Aaron Rodgers. (Green Bay averaged 13.5 points in two matchups against Chicago.) Like the Jets and Patriots last week, I think divisional familiarity will help to slow down a hot offense. The Bears wont give up big plays, and tailback James Starks should struggle to run against a strong run defense. This pick isnt about logic. Its about the Bears finding a way to make this game ugly. They can beat a more talented Packers squad because of special teams, defense, and the Jay Cutler throw across his body that looks like a terrible idea. For some strange reason, Im convinced Cutler will complete that throw Sunday and spoil Rodgers run to NFL royalty.

Rosenthals pick: Bears 20, Packers 17.

dfosterf (5h) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
