Yes, they once existed as a professional basketball team .
They have nothing to do with the Chicago Bulls or even the Chicago Stags.
In fact, the Chicago Packers are now the Washington Wizards.
The Chicago Packers aren't to be confused with the Anderson Packers, a former NBA team from Anderson, Ind. Those Packers played in the NBA at the same time with the Sheboygan Red Skins.
This is where the NBA first played in Wisconsin, the Sheboygan Municipal Auditorium and Armory:
It's stil there.
The Bucks weren't the state's second NBA team. It was the Milwaukee Hawks (1951-55), who arrived via the Buffalo Bison and the Tri-Cities Blackhawks. The Blackhawks were one of the NBA's orginal franchises. After moving to Milwaukee, the team subsequently went to St. Louis before becoming the Atlanta Hawks.
Of course, all this has nothing to do with the big football game on Sunday. I'm just a sucker for history.
