What do you see as the potential ramifications of the Packers winning the NFC Championship game this year? Do you think it will make it easier or harder to retain current personnel, and will it improve the Packers' chances of signing premier free agents?

I agree with your assessment of Dom Capers' motivations for staying here. I had speculated previously that -- particularly given his prior negative experiences as head coach of expansion teams -- he might not want to serve as the guinea pig for an untested personnel man like John Elway. I believe his prospects of securing his legacy are far better in Green Bay than they would be anywhere else in the league at this moment. No doubt that is one of the reasons why Dick LeBeau has remained in Pittsburgh so long.

However, I am concerned that the late-season successes of the Packers might have cemented the job security prospects of such Packers position coaches as Campen and Slocum, whom I firmly believe should be fired. However, in a league in which Marty Schottenheimer can be fired after a 14-2 season, no one's job can truly be regarded as secure. Do you think Mike McCarthy will have the courage to fire his staff despite an overall phenomenal team showing that has masked some of the lingering and chronic positional deficiencies?

The main reason why I would argue that Rodgers deserves consideration for best quarterback in the league is that unlike some of the other quarterbacks mentioned, his passer rating actually increases in the postseason versus the regular season.

Thats going to be a popular thought, but heres how Rodgers has played in 10 outdoor games played in December or January since taking over as Green Bays starter in 2008, all of which were in cold-weather spots: Rodgers has completed 209 of 330 passes for 2,857 yards, 22 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Thats a quarterback rating of 106.8 and the Packers are 8-2 in those games.
