Hardly anybody has mentioned it, but with all the emphasis on special teams this year, they've been very average. I think if they were playing like they are supposed to, the Packers would have one more win, or maybe two.

Will Blackmon's return TD in the opener was the biggest play of that game, but since then the special teams have really not had any game-changing plays. There have been a few good returns by Blackmon, Crosby's place kicking has been good but not money-in-the-bank, and Frost's punting has been mediocre at best. Crosby has attempted two onside kicks, both of which were complete jokes. I know onside kicks are hard, but the kicker should at least give the other team a CHANCE to screw up.

On the plus side, Crosby's kickoffs have been better than average, and the punt coverage has been excellent.

My hope is that with the Packers now getting healthy, the special teams will improve in the second half of the season. This needs to happen. This is a team where many players are on the roster mainly because of their special teams play. That's one reaon why the roster is so young. Average is not good enough. The Packers should be in the top ten for special teams.

Thanks for the stats, IronMan. I should've looked them up myself. I'm surprised how low we are in kickoff return average.

I will add that Derrick Frost is 19th in net punting average at 37.8 yards. Jon Ryan is 17th at 38.0. So no big difference there. Dumping Ryan for Frost still seems like an odd move, though it has not been a disaster.

ST have been a nightmare for us too this year , they have maybe cost us two games already , .......one for sure (the bears game)

I watched that game and I have to agree with you. If not for your special teams play that game would have been yours. I sure wish it turned out the other way.

I also wish the Lions/Bears game turned out different.

Well, at least our special teams haven't cost us any games. But since that first game against the Vikings, they haven't won any either. Maybe today is the day they do it again.

I noticed, but I doubt that many people have. It's been a very quiet improvement. For a punter, it's a good thing not to be noticed. But if he can stick a couple inside the five yard line, then people will notice him in a good way.

Frost is terrible. It's one move by the coaching staff that I strongly disagree with. If you can't punt in a dome, you can't punt anywhere.

I never should of opened my mouth. i jinxed it. but our starting field position isn't just awful. but its not a great situation to be backed up in your own red zone with the oline we have. if that makes sense

What worries me is we play the bears,and you can't afford to punt to Hester in a way I wonder if M.M thinks that and that is why he has crosby try and kick it from so far,and prays he makes it or other team will have it maybe at their own 40,even when vikes had good field position they didn't use the opportunities.
