Packer fans are everywhere. We were at the Lady Griz Holiday Classic tournament this past Tuesday and Wednesday and one of the teams in the tourney was Texas A&M, Corpus Christi. My wife and I went to both games each night, and on Tuesday Texas A&M was playing North Dakota in the early game.
One of my old, long time teaching buddies is now the radio announcer for the Lady Griz, and when he comes to set up I usually go down and BS with him for while until he has to go on the air. I had on my Packer Sweatshirt and was sitting right next to the A&M bench while Tom (announcer) set up. A time out was called and this guy comes over from the team and asks if I'm a Packer Fan. Uh, hello,....does the sweatshirt give you any clue? He says he is a bigtime Packer fan and tries to see as many games as he can.
His name is Geoff Grawn, assistant head coach for the Texas A&M ladies and he grew up in Marguette MI and has been a Packer fan as long as he can remember. We chat until the timeout is over and when I head back to my seat I lean over and tell him I'll talk to him tomorrow.
Last night they played the early game (they lost on Tuesday to North Dakota) and we got there early for that game. I went down and found Geoff and presented him with a pack of Packer Coasters. (I got three for Christmas so I could give away at least one.)
The head coach saw us talking and came over and looked at my Packer Parka and Packer Stocking hat and said, " My God, you guys are everywhere." We talked a bit and he said that almost every place they play on the road he sees Packer sweatshirts or hats or coats. Hey, better than seeing a Dallas Star or a Viking isn't it?
Anyone for a Weenie Roast?
