The difference between now and with Grant is that McCarthy actually feed Grant the ball on a consistent basis even when it wasn't working for the most part. If you look at Grant early in the season and early in games, he is no better than Jackson. Look at the first 10 carries per game for the first 1/2 of both 08 and 09 seasons for Grant. He averaged 3.4ypc 08 and 3.75ypc 09. If you break it down further. In those first 10 carries of those games.

(0 or - runs) 13.5 per season, (1-4yds) 41 per season, (5-10yds) 17.5 per season, (11-20yds) 5.5 and no runs over 20 (1 was 20 exactly)

Now this isn't an exact comparison because Jackson didn't get the ball as consistently to get in a rythm with the Oline, but If you look at Jackson first 10 (or less in 2 games) for 8 games starting (I threw out Wash because I didn't want that 71 yarder to sway the numbers unfairly). Jackson is 3.77 ypc, with 10 (0 or -), 46 (1-4) , 12 (5-10), 7 (11-20) and 1 (>20)

So using about the same carries, Jackson averaged more yards, had less zero or negative carries, more short runs, less mid range and more long runs.

Again the difference being McCarthy stuck with Grant, but never gave Jackson a chance. I don't dislike Grant, I think both are good, both have different styles and bring different things to the table. I really think McCarthy screwed up splitting the carries so much with Kuhn. Anybody that knows football will tell you, the run game gets better the more you use it. Grant shows that, if he would have been limited as much as Jackson, he probably would have ended those seasons with 7 or 8 hundred yards but instead McCarthy stuck with him even though he didn't have great production early.

Here we go, I watch the games and Its not that I hate GB or want them to lose but...

I just feel B-Jack is not a feature back. The more carries you give him the more yards you will lose. He does well in open space (checkdowns and screens), has some swivel to his hips, but from the rb position, the guy just can not find a hole.

I compare him to Tony Fisher, right now I think James Starks is a better RB than B-Jack.

B-Jack does not get the carries b/c he does not produce IMO.

Exactly.. it does fall on MM and staff.. they have failed this season to establish the run. Some by personnel and some by lack of focus upon the running game itself.

Running the damn ball is about the "want" to.. and from MM down.. they haven't wanted to, with exception of 73 yard pound the rock performance by Starks vs the 49ers and a game closing punch them in the mouth drive earlier in the season.

Like I stated in the Detroit loss may have saved the season.. the Packer will focus on the run, develop some sort of semblance of a run game and move forward. At least I frigg'in hope.

I completely agree. I wouldn't mind holding onto B-Jack for future years too as a passing down back, because he's very good on screens, but as a ball carrier, not so much.

And pack93z, it's not just about 'wanting' to establish a run game. I don't think we've ran well, but then abandon it ever. Our run game just isn't there. Sure, everyone would like it to be there, but it isn't. Our coaches are not dumb enough to keep running when absolutely nothing is gained by it. That's why we see Rodgers air it out for three straight quarters from time to time.

I still haven't forgiven Mike McCarthy for putting Rodgers in a five-wide, empty backfield set immediately after getting clocked. Give the man a chance to get his feet under him, for godsake.

Finland.. I will counter and say it isn't there because MM and staff haven't demanded it be there.. I stand by the it is a "want" to issue and not a can't issue.

I will bet my signature for the remainder of the year that we run the ball for more than a 100 tomorrow night... first to take it can alter my attire here for the remainder of the season.

But be prepared to don something pathetic.. because the Packers will eclipse that mark and then some.

Why.. because they figured out that Rodgers and the passing game can't be relied on alone.. and they will have focus on the this week and will want to... need to run it. And we will.

These same coaches stick with Grant when he doesn't produce early. McCarthy came out after Buffalo game, and said Jackson will not be the #1 back because he is to important to the 3rd down offense, yet I can count on my fingers the number of times Jackson was in on 3rd downs. It is either empty or 3 FB.

Jackson is not Grant, he doesn't run like that. But he better than what has been shown if he would have been given a fair chance. Mike stuck the run game in the drawer after week 1.

I hope 93Z is right because the Packers need to run the damn ball and keep running the damn ball.

that is b/c Starks > Jackson

you have B-Jack Be your feature back against NE and give him 25 carries he'll finish with negative yards. he is that bad at rb.
