You all do realize this was going to be the last play Detroit did not know what the Packers would do. We could go for the 1st or do what we did. From there on out the Lions KNOW we're going to pass the ball and I don't know what game you saw but the one I saw had the Lions on our QB before he could make a play.

We were not going to get anybody open over the top from there on out for sure. We would have had to make a play we weren't able to do the whole game.

That was the best time and place to get somebody over the top and win the game. I say asking the backup QB to make one play vs. facing a torrid pass rush and thread the ball from there on out and somehow find the endzone was the way to go.

Dude they had driven the ball 54 yards at that point with short quick passes there's no reason to believe that would just suddenly shut down. Flynn proved he could hit those passes accurately he also proved he COULD NOT hit the deep passes accurately. "From there on out" They were at the freakin 30 yard line it's not like they still had the length of the field to go.

If something is working for you then you stick with it.

Well-said. Add in the fact that the Lions have had trouble closing out games all year. Better to force them to play it right down to the wire rather than asking your backup QB to save the game with a difficult throw.

And that 54 yards we made was given up by a D guarding against a team that needs a TD which you see all the time and the reason we even needed a TD at that time? Because our backup QB tried to thread one in earlier and had it intercepted.

You see defenses with a 4+ point lead at the end of games give up short stuff and keep everything in front of them every single week. It get's harder as the field grows shorter and the coverage gets tighter. Especially when the Oline isn't blocking anybody.

If I am going to question any call it would have been the one where Flynn threw the INT. Points were very hard to come by and a FG there means we only need a another to win if the Lions do score a TD which they did.

I would not have put that pattern in play with Flynn at QB in that situation. Obviously you try to score a TD down there but make sure to come out with at least 3.

It was not a good sign that the TV announcer predicted the throw to Driver before that play. The Lions were obviously thinking the same thing, so they had an LB set up near the line of scrimmage, stay there for half a beat after the ball was snapped, then drop back into the throwing lane. That was a really good defensive strategy, especially against a young QB. A bad interception, but I give the Lions some credit for that one.

From the no shit file.. you better learn how to run the damn ball.

We would have felt better about calling another run if we would have had a little better success on the 2nd and 2, said Philbin. That was particularly frustrating. They have a good scheme, they played it well. The line up their ends real real wide. Its tough to get the ball in the perimeter on those guys. We were running some inside zone plays, some draw plays.

But when you have five negative runs, four sacks, two penalties, I mean, youre banging your head against a wall. Youre going backwards. I mean, its hard enough to get a first down. I think its tough to stick with the run game when you get five negative runs in a ball game.

I think that ship has sailed.

I think it's safe to say that Starks, in fact, is not the spawn of Barry Sanders and Jim Brown, regardless of what Nerdmann will keep on telling you.

Jackson will not cut it.

Nance will not cut it.

Kuhn is a FB.

Grant was our running game. I don't know what kind of hotfixes people are expecting here. Start up the musical chairs on the O-line? Force feed the RBs the ball while they're averaging 2.0 per carry? Sign Edgerrin James or Shaun Alexander, so they can average 2.0 per carry?

You know what might be best? Getting a scared rusher. The only person who might get do better than Grant behind this awful O-line is someone like Dickie Post.

Starks has one bad running game so we right him off? you realize the best backs in the league get shut down right? I take it was our line broke down as well as the Lions have a great Dline to stuff runs.

Jennings 1 on 1 with Vashar? I'll take that any day.

With Rodgers taking the snap, yes. With a QB who has taken limited game snaps, no. Too risky and a bad gamble.

Yes. Not being the spawn of Sanders and Brown = "righted" off.

My point was, the combination of things that are broken right now make it very hard to get an offense that is reliant upon a good running game going right now, with Flynn at the helmet.
