Veteran free agent wide receiver Javon Walker has been suspended for four games by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
It's unclear whether Walker, 32, was suspended for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy or performance-enhancing drug policy. He hasn't drawn interest this season from teams since being cut by the Minnesota Vikings, so this should further preclude him from getting back into the league.
The former Green Bay Packers first-round draft pick is eligible to be signed by any team, but they would have to cut a player or place someone on injured reserve to create a roster spot for him.
Drafted 20th overall in 2002 out of Florida State, Walker is a 2004 Pro Bowl selection who has also played for the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.
Walker was signed to a six-year, $55 million deal that included $16 million in guaranteed money in 2008 by the Raiders.
He was cut on March 8.
Signed by the Vikings this summer, he was cut Sept. 4 before the first game.
For his career, Walker has caught 267 passes for 4,011 yards and 31 touchdowns.
