Starks 9-34 yards
Kuhn 2-6 yards
Bjack 1-4 yards
Rodgers 1-11 yards
Rodgers Pass 3-4, 13 yards

Nothing fancy, but that had to have been the most effective game-clinching, clock-killing drive the team has had this year.

We ate the clock, even when we were going more than 2 to 1 passing. Final was 37 minutes for us. Love to see us dominate the clock like this. Not just this possession but the whole game.

That's exactly what I was going to say. And the nice thing about this game was that they did it against a better run defense and with a new RB who flashed a bit of potential. As an added benefit, it forced Brian Billick to shut up. (Although him and his partner thought they were onto something really funny with all their talk about hats.)

The drive definitely deserves its own thread. Thanks, musccy

Do you really want to go there today?

OK, this drive was the drive where Aaron missed Driver for an easy TD. Driver was wide open in the end zone. Should have been 7 points but instead, ended with 0 because of a missed FG. Note how much time we took off. Also note, it was almost all passes.

Green Bay - 11:44
1st-10, GB34 11:44 A. Rodgers passed to B. Jackson down the middle for 11 yard gain
1st-10, GB45 11:03 A. Rodgers passed to G. Jennings to the right for 5 yard gain
2nd-5, 50 10:28 J. Starks rushed to the left for 2 yard gain
3rd-3, SF48 9:45 A. Rodgers passed to D. Driver to the right for 6 yard gain
1st-10, SF42 9:09 A. Rodgers passed to K. Hall to the right for 9 yard gain
2nd-1, SF33 8:41 J. Starks rushed to the left for 3 yard gain
1st-10, SF30 8:00 A. Rodgers passed to J. Nelson to the left for 9 yard gain
2nd-1, SF21 7:30 San Francisco committed 5 yard penalty
1st-10, SF16 7:06 B. Jackson rushed up the middle for 8 yard gain
2nd-2, SF8 6:23 A. Rodgers passed to J. Jones to the right for 1 yard gain
3rd-1, SF7 6:00 J. Kuhn rushed up the middle for 1 yard gain
1st-6, SF6 5:17 A. Rodgers incomplete pass to the left
2nd-6, SF6 5:13 A. Rodgers incomplete pass to the right. Green Bay committed 10 yard penalty
2nd-16, SF16 5:08 A. Rodgers passed to G. Jennings to the left for 5 yard gain
4th-11, SF11 4:28 M. Crosby missed a 29-yard field goal

Now, before this drive, we were over 2 to 1 passes to run. The game was already over and we were just hammering out the clock with the run (which like I showed before, was already happening with the pass).

Green Bay - 11:45
1st-10, GB20 11:45 J. Starks rushed to the left for no gain
2nd-10, GB20 11:02 J. Starks rushed to the right for 16 yard gain
1st-10, GB36 10:18 J. Kuhn rushed up the middle for 4 yard gain
2nd-6, GB40 9:36 J. Starks rushed to the left for 1 yard gain
3rd-5, GB41 8:54 A. Rodgers rushed to the left for 11 yard gain
1st-10, SF48 8:11 J. Starks rushed to the right for 3 yard gain
2nd-7, SF45 7:30 J. Starks rushed up the middle for 7 yard gain
1st-10, SF38 6:45 B. Jackson rushed to the left for 4 yard gain
2nd-6, SF34 6:02 J. Starks rushed to the left for 4 yard gain
3rd-2, SF30 5:17 A. Rodgers passed to J. Jones to the right for 7 yard gain
1st-10, SF23 4:30 J. Starks rushed to the right for 1 yard gain
2nd-9, SF22 4:25 J. Starks rushed to the right for 3 yard gain
3rd-6, SF19 3:49 San Francisco committed 5 yard penalty
3rd-1, SF14 3:44 J. Kuhn rushed to the right for 2 yard gain
1st-10, SF12 3:29 J. Starks rushed up the middle for no gain
2nd-10, SF12 3:26 A. Rodgers passed to A. Quarless to the right for 4 yard gain
3rd-6, SF8 3:19 A. Rodgers passed to D. Driver to the right for 2 yard gain
4th-4, SF6 3:10 M. Crosby kicked a 24-yard field goal

Summary - running is nice, but we won this game because of our tight D and our passing game. Aaron completely dominated Smith and Aaron even missed 2 TD passes that resulted in 0 points instead of 14.

LOL.. Zombie.. just wanted to hear you defend the pass.

Honestly.. What I liked the most about this drive and today.. is that we were not afraid to run the ball in short yardage... and were successful in doing so.

But from the start to the end.. we ran the ball enough and effectively enough to setup some PA and keep the 49ers honest all day long.

Again.. I don't want a run based team.. but I want a team that can buckle it up and run it successfully when the need it or want it.

Note the faces on the 49ers and Mike during this drive.. it demoralized them and we closed the game out without giving them a realistic chance of crawling back in. Drives like this one.. close out football games.. no matter how the points ahead of them came.

I will say it again.. we are a passing team and Rodgers is the lynch pin to it.. doesn't mean an effective running game and a drive as such will lock down a game.

Now.. we need to repeat this when the score is tighter and the game is still in the balance.. and Rodgers and the Packers winning percentage in close games will go up. Significantly..

Want to argue that.. look at our record in close games with the same passing game and defense.. this drive is an illustration of what is missing.. time consuming beat down of a drive.

+1 Pack93z. You summarized basically every main point I wanted to make about this game.

One thing I'll add is that the Starks Kool-aide I'm drinking right now also has me believing that this team will now be capable of creating 2nd and 5s, or 3rd and 1s with the run more consistently, in addition to being able to pick up 3rd and 1s WITH THE RUN if they so choose.

This team has needed at least the THREAT of a competent run game all season, and today offered a lot of promise that we may have found that.

It is good when any phase of the game can show a marked improvement. Regardless of how vital people think that component is.

We lost all 4 of our games by a margin of 3. If any phase had been better, we would have won.

I don't think the run game is pivotal. The average super bowl winner for the last 20 years has an average running game. To me that says that the run game is not a determining factor.

But any time you can improve anywhere, it makes the team stronger. The run game needed it the most.

They alluded to this in the broadcast how recent SB teams such as the Colts and Cards had sub-par running games, and looking at this year, the pats have a pretty crappy run game too. I'm beating a dead horse, but you just need to be able to convert a few short yardage situations and make the D respect your run game.
