The NFL has announced that the Cowboys will not be given a pass on the Rooney Rule for the promotion of Garrett, they will have to interview and then hire him permanently if they choose to.

So now I have a question when the Vikes promote Frasier.

Will they be subjected to the same ruling?

I would love to hear the NFL's position upon this when it comes to pass.

I don't like the Rooney rule at all. It should be called the patronizing rule.

It's stupid.
Lets see, how would it go?
Cowboys: "We are hiring Garret, but we will go through this whole bogus interview crap, just to make the NFL happy. Won't change who we are going to hire, it will just make them happy."
What a waste.

I agree w/ Zero, but pack93z brought up a great question. Does the Rooney rule protect against reverse-discrimination as well?

Great point.
And the answer is obvious, it's "NO!!!"

The Rooney Rule is a joke!
I could go further with my opinion but I couldn't possibly be "politically correct".

What do they think will be accomplished with the Gooney.....i mean, Rooney rule?
It's just another "feel good" politically correct worthless piece of garbage.

Does NOT accomplish anything, costs money, wastes time.

I also could go on and on about it.....but it's pretty obvious that it's LAME.

It's reverse racism. I understand the idea of giving minority coaching candidates opportunities but does it really do that? It only forces teams to sit through an interview with a person they haven't even considered hiring. It's bogus for both the minority coach and the team.

Somebody asked Peter King about the Vikings' situation, and he said that he doesn't think they will have to interview another minority candidate, since the whole point of the rule is that at least one minority candidate gets an interview, and they already have one.

I wasn't sure if I liked the Rooney rule when the NFL implemented it, but I think it's turned out to be a good thing. There was an entrenched old boys network in NFL front offices, and the Rooney rule has helped break that up faster without precluding anyone from hiring the coach of their choice. All it has cost the teams is a little bit of time, and minority coaching candidates have stated that it's allowed them to at least get their name out there even when they haven't been seriously considered.
