Roddyboy-- My kneejerk reaction to your post would be the suggestion that you go find some other team to try and truly root for, but upon reflection I realized there are no current NFL franchises in outer space.

I don't think we have to worry about violating the salary cap minimum anymore.

$20 MILLION GUARANTEED FOR RODGERS
Posted by Mike Florio on October 31, 2008, 4:46 p.m. EDT
The contract signed Friday by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers pay him big money. But not huge money.

But wed take it if we could get it.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Rodgers will receive $20 million guaranteed on a six-year, $65 million deal.

The contract falls short of the deal signed last year by Tony Romo of the Cowboys, wholl receiver $67 million over six years, and who got $30 million guaranteed. And Romos deal was criticized in some circles for not pushing north the high-water mark for high-end quarterbacks.

After three years of sitting on the bench (and losing plenty of money via unachievable play-time incentives), Rodgers likely opted to take what he could get now in lieu of pushing for free agency after the 2009 season.

Absent an extension to the CBA, Rodgers would have been eligible for restricted free agency only after next season, because the rules of the uncapped year (set for 2010) require players to have six or more seasons in order to achieve unrestricted free agency.

Those numbers look about right. The guaranteed money is actually lower than I expected, so that mitigates a lot of the risk. Good job, TT!

He should have honored his current contract and played it out.

(This will be the undoing of Ted Thompson....guaranteed!)

Hmmm didn't the Packers keep extending another QB through the 90's and into this century well in advance to his contract expiring.. pretty damn sure they did.

That is smart money.. if the duck quacks like a duck, walks like a duck and can throw the damn football like an NFL QB.. you lock his arse up.

Look for the same positive FA effect this team has with a solid NFL QB in the fold.. glad they got this deal done.

Theres a huge difference pack and they kept redoing his contract because he would take pay cuts to sign free agents. i don't agree with it but i do agree with roddy on this way to early for this 8 games into a career and you throw the bank at him this could be the end of Ted Thompson (thank god maybe we can stop planning for the future) oh wait thats what he just did.

how can you say a solid qb with a 4-3 record? and thanks for the laugh you brought up free agency and green bay in the same sentence lol. Ted Thompson and free agents don't go together.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
