I like him.

He has a past relationship with Nick McDonald in high school, and a past relationship with T.J. Lang in college.

GBP official site on Zombo---take a moment and read the "related articles" at the bottom of the page

I've liked him from the start. What do you think of him? (Fuck the scouts)

He's like Poppinga with upside. He'll take a big step from year one to two.

I just wish I could yell, "You just got Zomboed" at the TV when he gets a sack a little more often.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

He has Clay Matthew's heart without the talent. He's Aaron Kampmann, only able to play OLB. I think we should draft the top OLB on the board next year in the first round.

no idea what we need next year considering the slug fest we have had to our players this year ... its almost like we dont need a corner and safety in the high picks next year ... DL LB and maybe RB (who knows how grant will do after surgery).

Problem is... He's not shining, he's supporting.

Just like Brad Jones.

Everyone saw what happened when Clay dropped out of the Washington game. We couldn't get to the passer to safe our lifes.

Jenkins and Matthews are carrying our pass rush. The rest just have to take advantage of the chances they get because of the coverage that Cullen and Clay (and to a lesser extent Raji) are drawing.

The Steelers have an awfully average secondary (although Polamalu makes up for a lot), but have one of the best defenses in the league.

The big reason for that is having James Harrison on one side and LaMarr Woodley on the other.

And they're not stopping there. They keep adding talent to the position. They just drafted Jason Worilds in the 2nd round this year.

Same goes for the Colts defense. They absolutely suck agains the run, but they have those two guys coming off the edge who make life miserable for opposing QBs.

That's what we need. We have an offense who can get up fast, forcing other teams to throw. If we have that 2nd edge rusher, we'll be nearly unstopable. Much like the Colts have been doing for years.

It's all about the pass rush.

Now, the good thing is that you can find some gems, since there's a position change involved, in the later rounds.

Zombo and Jones haven't been those dominant rushers, though.

I was pissing people of with the amount of whining I did about Jerry Hughes last year and I think I'll do it again, with another DE/OLB prospect this year.

OLB is what we need in the draft this year. Last year LT was the priority. The year before, we needed a NT. No big deal. I also agree that Zombo takes a huge step his second year.

Zombo is the answer opposite of Clay Matthews. Haven't caught any mistakes so far in his game...

Clay Matthews out of the game = the entire defense struggling, not just Zombo.

Um, I fail to see how Zombo is the answer opposite of Clay given your last statement.

What is so good about Clay is that he can play the run just as well as he can pass-rush. That's rare, and mighty impressive.

Zombo has some potential at excelling against the run... but he is nowhere the natural athlete with burst that Clay is.

Rock makes a spot-on point (+1, btw). I'd even say with the emergence of Shileds and Tramon, that CB is not really a priority at this point. Hell, with Jolly possibly coming back and Neal showing something, I'd say D-line isn't a need area either. Add to that the emergence of Bishop and solid play of Hawk... ILB is also not a position of concern. And with Collins / Burnett / Peprah at Safety, it too is not a glaring weakness.

OLB has to be at the top of the list for Ted on D I think. It's interesting to mention how McGinn, who has pretty good inside info, heavily implied that were it not for Bulaga falling, Jerry Hughes would have been the Packers' pick.

Not only Zombo, but all of these "no names" forced to play extended time are only going to get better for next year. Yeah, imagine a full Packer roster with backups and 3rd stringers having played more than expected, added to a pretty good starting 22....yup, looking pretty good!

Zombo is a rookie converted DE. An offseason in the program is gonna benefit him like it did Chmura or KGB. He's gonna grow from a boy to a man.

Any other white guys we can compare him to? Someone already mentioned Poppinga. I think it's funny how we always end up comparing white players to other white players. I do the same thing sometimes.

I like Zombo. The forced fumble was a huge play. Too bad he is not looking like a pass rushing force, as he appeared he might be early in the season. As lords_of_thelma said, he's like Poppinga with upside. You could also say that he's like Poppinga with a much smaller contract.

I would love to see a bookend for Matthews taken in the first round next year.

I like the poppinga analogy, he just seems a lot less stiff and more athletic in general.

As for draft needs, since this thread is drifting that way, I agree with what others have said about defensive depth...it actually seems really good if they can stay healthy. We need an eventual replacement for Harris/Woody, but I actually think WR is becoming a pressing need.
