And at least he admitted it after the game. Apologized to the University of Montana.
This is what happened. Northern Arizona had scored a TD and kicked off. The ball was deep in the end zone and the kick returner went back and caught it over his head about one step from the end line. His MOMENTUM carried him out of the end zone, but the ref called it a safety. He did not confer at all with other officials and ignored Montana's coaches pleas that it was a touchback.
Replays showed that the receiver did not have actual control of the ball when he went over the endline. Touchback!
After the game he admitted his call was wrong and he apologized to the coaches and university. Luckily, Montana pulled out a win on the last play of the game.....another judgement call. 5 seconds left on the clock and Montana needs a TD to win. On NAU's 3 yard line. Corner pass into the end zone and a jump ball type play happens. Montana receiver and NAU defender both come down with ball. Ruling...simultaneous catch goes to the offense. Right call.
