The following three statements are not equivalent:

1. Playing the RB position requires less intelligence.
2. People who play RB generally are less intelligent.
3. RB X, who is having difficulty picking up the RB position, is less intelligent.

Zombie is saying #1.

Zombie is not saying #2.

Zombie may be saying #3 with respect to a particular RB.

But even if he is, he is still not saying #2.

Precision in language is important here, folks.

Zero - please read Rockmolder's other post. And yes, Wonderlic is a mini-IQ test. They even advertise it as such. Unofficially of course but that's what they tell the NFL.

Finley - Some positions require more intelligence than others. It takes a tremendous amount of intelligence to play OT. It doesn't take much intelligence at all to play DL. DL - don't move until the ball is hiked. Get the guy with the ball. Yes, there are exceptions but basically, that's DL.

AADP - With all due respect, I think you're overrationalizing how hard it is to be a RB. I said it before and I'll say it again. There's a reason the NFL makes players take an IQ test. It's the only sport I know of where IQ matters.

RB is among the lowest when it comes to IQ requirements. It really is easy. Run this way. Run that way. Follow this lead blocker. Don't fumble the football.

Necessary IQ for a RB? 85+. 85 is half-way between normal and retarded.

I know, I know. There's going to be someone who said they played RB and they're going to be offended. Tough. Don't argue this with me. Argue this with NFL coaches. They look at the Wonderlic scores (which is an IQ test) for a reason.

I'm not at all implying you have to be stupid to be a RB. Anyone who read that into what I said needs to learn basic logic. What I am implying is the MINIMUM requirement is an 85 IQ. (And of course the physical tools to be a RB, but I shouldn't even have to mention that).

Easy mentally, maybe - in some cases. It does take intelligence to learn the pass pro and some of the deeper-dive stuff - not that he necessarily needs to have that stuff down if they just install a couple packages for him. In any case, that's a fair point.

Easy any other way? Hell no - and I'm fairly convinced you didn't mean it that way. RB is nothing but punishment from snap to whistle.

ILike - Of course. RB is one of the most dangerous positions in sports, period.

I meant intelligence only.

Is that why McCarthy is always saying "we're going to be smart about this..."?

Yes but if you want to be good you have to do more than that...

Every positions are hard to play and regardless of how many things you got to do you have to be smart to be a good player.
Intelligence is a bad excuse imo so you can be dumb and play DT?You have to read and react for every position and have good instincts other than knowing what you have to do.

Can you play DT or RB and take a beating i dont think so.

No. I tore up my knees playing a DB.

That's not the point. I'm talking intelligence ONLY. Not the physicality of it.

There have been DTs in NFL history who are Pro Bowlers who have 80-85 IQs. Doesn't take brains. Just repetition.

RBs and DTs are amongst the lowest when it comes to requirements.

Not implying RBs are all stupid. Ryan Grant is actually a pretty smart guy. He's probably a heck of a lot smarter than a lot of the people I work with, and I work as a Software Engineer.

But his high intelligence is irrelevant for his position.

Greg Jennings - 18
Donald Driver - ?
J Finley - 9
D Colledge - 30
Sitton - 25
Scott Wells - 30
Cliffy - 23
Tauscher - 25
BJ Raji - 21
Pickett - ?
Jenkins - ?

Brad Jones - ?
Nick Barnett - 25
AJ Hawk - 27

Al Harris - ?
Nick Collins - 14

A few notes - I'm surprised Barnett's isn't higher. I was assuming it would be at least in the low 30s. And now we know why Masthay's on the team. He brings up the average Wonderlic score. :cyclopsani:
