According to sources, defensive coordinator Dom Capers and safeties coach Darren Perry wanted to keep Smith because he knew the defensive system. But general manager Ted Thompson kept former draft pick Aaron Rouse instead. Rouse was waived by the Packers during the '09 season.

So, if I get this right, Rouse was kept over Smith. We put in a claim on Smith, missed out. Now trade a late round pick for Smith.

And some still say Ted Thompson doesn't admit to making mistakes? I think he admitted it not once, but twice, hell three times if you want to count when we cut Rouse after a few weeks.

Since the Bears beat us, wouldn't we be two games back?

No. That's a figure of speech a lot of people use, but it's not accurate. The Packers are one game back of the Bears. The head-to-head record only comes into play if at the end of the season, the Packers have an identical record to the Bears. In that case it serves as a tiebreaker.

Hes got a lot of talent, no doubt about that, an AFC North assistant coach told the Journal Sentinel in 09. Hes just got to get the mental side together. Thats the thing that will make him a real good safety. He hasnt shown he can do that yet.

His best year was 2007 with the Steelers.

69 tackles 2 ints 1 FF only started 10 games.

And if we beat the Bears later in the year it nullifies that tie breaker

It wasn't an "attitude problem" with Smith. What I recall is that he took more chances outside of the scheme than the coaches liked, even if it seemed to work in the preseason games he played with GB. I liked him, and I was disappointed that they let him go. I'm glad he's back!
