I really don't understand what goes in Ted Thompson's head.

This is impossible to be true. Mike McCarthy didn't like Smith and that was why he was exiled.

I can see Ted Thompson's response to this statement: "General managers manage. Coaches coach. Players play." ;)

but we got rid of him because mm didn't like his attitude or something, right?

Edit, i hope he starts next week.

I wonder why the Jags would trade their starting safety? They are in the hunt in the AFC South. I hope we didn't so something crazy like give up a 3rd round pick or James Jones.

Report: Packers acquire safety Smith from Jags for draft pick

NFL.com

Published: Oct. 17, 2010 at 10:11 p.m. Updated: Oct. 17, 2010 at 10:20 p.m.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson has a well-chronicled unwillingness to trade away draft picks. But concerns at the safety position may have caused a temporary change in Green Bay's philosophy.

The Florida Times-Union reported on Sunday that the Packers have acquired safety Anthony Smith from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

Smith is no stranger to the Green Bay system. The Packers signed him as a free agent in 2009, but released him in the final round of cutdowns during training camp.

Smith didn't play in the Jaguars losses to the San Diego Chargers in Week 2 and Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3 because of a foot injury. He returned to the lineup in Week 4 against the Colts and intercepted a pass. He played in 64 snaps against the Colts and 56 against Buffalo last week.

The Florida Times-Union reported that the Jaguars will play Courtney Greene and Don Carey at strong safety against the Titans on Monday night. Gerald Alexander will remain the starter at free safety.

The Packers have been hit hard by injuries at the safety position. Rookie Morgan Burnett, who was the starter, tore his ACL against the Detroit Lions in Week 4, and last years starter, Atari Bigby, is on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing ankle surgery. Bigby is eligible to return in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday.

You have to admit, Ted Thompson sure knows how to make a flashy trade.

Low risk move. I like it. Too bad no other RBs are available. I doubt Oakland wold be willing to part with Bush or McFadden, but those guys are both better than B Jack.

Interesting how teams are so willing to let this dude go. Just hope he shows up regularly, on the field.
Maybe now we can bulk Bigby up and start him at OLB.

This team is 3-3 and only a game back of the Chicago Bears. They have a must win game next week, which is being played at home against a team that they want to beat more than anything. Yeah, I'd say better late than never applies to this point in time.

wow. just wow.
I didn't think Teddy would make any moves this year. Just write the season off as one of those freak things.

Since the Bears beat us, wouldn't we be two games back?

dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.

Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
