Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Marisa Miller is teaming up with yet another legendary sports organization: the National Football League.

The supermodel has signed on as the new spokesperson for the NFL's 2010-2011 season, The Hollywood Reporter confirms exclusively.

"I'm so excited to have this incredible opportunity to partner with the NFL," Miller says. "I've grown up watching football my whole life."

The "SuperFan" will be promoting the league's special events, including the Oct. 31 International Series game airing on CBS between the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos in London.

"Marisa's love for the NFL and our sport made her ideally suited for this role," said Chris Parsons, NFL Vice President of International. "We look forward to working with her."

A longtime 49ers fan, Miller will appear in both print and commercial ads for the league. The print campaign--shot by Cartel and photographer Brian Bowen -- features Miller in vintage 49ers and Broncos gear to promote the overseas game.

"Going to the U.K. for this game is going to be a blast," the former Victoria Secret model says. "I'm looking forward to helping gain new fans and show them how incredible the game of American football is!"

The link has some pictures. This isn't really all the pertinent in itself but I think about the bigger issues here. I liked what this commenter had to say:

Is the NFL breaking their own policy by using Marisa Miller as a spokesperson for the NFL. In a time when they are scrutinizing players for the way they interact and conduct themselves around women. It would seem that the commissioner and his office would take a closer look at how they promoted the game. Using a bathing suit model is nothing more than promoting sexual-harassment in a different form. We can put blinders on and we can call it whatever we want but it's look it me and follow me to the game. I challenge the commissioner and his office to justify the use of eye candy in promoting the game.

With Rapelisburger, the Jet's locker room issue and now the "Favre Scandal" is this really the right move by the NFL?

It just makes me wonder if Roger Goodell is really Mr. Goody Two Shoes. Someone should follow him around and see what type of irresponsible behaviors he exhibits :)

EDIT: By the way, I want to make it clear that I have nothing against Maris Miller herself. Just the situation. From what I hear she's actually a pretty big 49er fan and knows her way around the game.

Wow, nice catch.

I hate Goodell (18 games, No Fun League, etc), so I can't wait to see his successor.

I see where you are coming from but don't agree with the opinion in the article. The author seems hung up on the fact that the ad campaign centers around a good looking female. Look at it this way, would it matter if she was ugly? Or if she was a guy? If so they would be getting pretty close to discrimination.

It's not that she's pretty or ugly, it's that she's a swimsuit model. She makes a living wearing scandalous clothing and flaunting her sex appeal. That's a lot different than just being "a good looking female" (although I admit I laughed after reading this sentence lol).

It's also a bigger deal because she's a spokesperson. Her whole job is to represent the NFL and attract a larger audience. If you had to pick a spokesperson for the NFL it would probably be a retired player or a beer drinking fan right? I don't see how you can point to anything except A) her being a fan of the 49ers and šŸ˜Ž her sex appeal as factors for being chosen spokesperson. Hell, look at the photos.

As far as what I think? Normally I don't think it should be a big issue, but with how Goodell is treating all the players in the league this is kind of a slap in the face. "Hey! Favre likes sending pictures of his cock to hot young females? I'll bring one in as the spokesperson!" "Hey the Jets like cat-calling at hot female reporters? I just hired a hot female as our spokesperson!" etc.,

Okay, but the uproar behind the alleged Favre incident and the female reporter in the Jets locker room getting catcalls is that both the Jets and Favre are (allegedly) adults who are expected to be able to conduct themselves in a proper manner. I don't see how Goodell (who I don't necessarily like as commish) is slapping anybody in the face by picking a spokesperson who will probably be pretty successful at his/her job.

I also still don't follow the original commentor's assertion that

"Using a bathing suit model is nothing more than promoting sexual-harassment in a different form. For their to be sexual harassment, doesn't somebody have to be harassed? Hiring somebody to be a spokesperson for an ad campaign is not harassment, hell I wish somebody would do it to me. Objectifying women, maybe, but absolutely not harassment.

As it turns out the choice of the vast majority of spokespeople or people in ads are chosen for their looks, or at least modified to look better. How many spokespeople go on camera or have a photo shoot without any makeup? How many don't have photos digitally touched up?

Anyways, didn't mean to draw this out and get slightly off topic but it just seems that the commenter is reaching with this article.

Two things.
1. I have no trouble with choosing spokespersons based on sex appeal. After all, we might have eye candy if we have to listen to Fleischer-speak. (I expect everyone knows who I'd pick.) But I do think their is a bit of hypocrisy from the NFL here.
2. Am I the only one who googled "who is jenn steger?" and discovered a whole host of bimbo photos?

1. Agreed.

2. Heh. Me too. Every single one was a bimbo photo except for the comparison photos. Is she really a reporter or just a model? I'm having a hard time believing the former.

By the way, I got a Perfect 10 with Marisa Miller in it. And yes, I'd sell it if the price was right. If you want it, find every liquor that Wade mentioned in that other thread except Dalwhinnie (which we'll be opening this weekend) and we'll do a trade.

I have no problem with it myself. I just think it's extremely hypocritical. And she isn't a reporter, just a model.

All I know is she got her fame by dressing up scanky for Florida State games when she was in college (I think it was FSU.. either them or Arizona State.. It was a maroon and gold colored team anyway.. lol).. She then used said scanky history/fame to get in the door of the NFL.

Dunno what she's doing now, even though the Jets said she NEVER worked directly for the organization (she apparently was a sub-contractor).
