I'm not gonna lie. I love Jermichael Finley. He brings the team the competitive character that it has missed for several years. But I do not understand the sudden change in playcalling (or Rodgers' decision-making) that in essence forces the Packers to use him almost exclusively.

He's a great player. He has gamebreaking speed for his size and he's the best playmaker on the field. I'm not denying that.

But we have Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Jordy Nelson and most importantly... Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers broke 4000 yards in both of the seasons he started because of his smarts with the football and getting the ball spread around.

Since this season started, I've seen a different kind of Aaron Rodgers. This version of Aaron Rodgers constantly drills it into the area of our big playmaker, like it's sort of a requirement. I've seen plenty of plays where the other TE or Jennings gets open, but it seems like he's only looking in one area now.

As big a season as Finley has been having, Rodgers is nowhere near the form he was in last season. The Packers are supposed to be a team that scores at will. Granted, the offensive line isn't good (in fact, they're horrible) and there is no running game, but that's even more of a reason for Rodgers to shine.

I don't know if it's bad playcalling or just bonehead decisions, but Jermichael Finley is the reason why Aaron is not having his MVP-caliber season.

This is confusing me too. IMO it looks like Rodgers' decision making, or lack there of, more than anything. I'm shocked Rodgers has played this poorly, when he LOOKED, so fundamentally sound in the preseason. I think Rodgers receives more hype than he deserves, but even I thought he would make a run for MVP this year.

We've seen it all before. Favre to Sharpe all the time, then Sharpe was injured and it forced Favre to use his other options (Brooks at the time). I'm not saying this is identical, but perhaps Rodgers needs some time away from his favorite target.

I actually brought this same exact comparison up in another thread. Maybe the injury could be a blessing in disguise as I stated.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

If Finley was targeted substantially more than the others, I'd agree, however, last stat I saw, he only was targeted once more than the player behind him.

Well looks like at least 3-4 weeks for him being out so we'll see what they plan now and who Rodgers will look for

I blame McCarthy, personally. ;)

I do agree with the OP, though. While on one hand we need to feed the ball to our big athletic playmaker tight end, we also have Driver, Jennings, Jones and co. I'm thinking about the interception against the Eagles where Rodgers forced it into an area with three defenders -- that's not a throw we're accustomed to seeing him make.

We just have to keep grinding through these injuries and hope this rut is a phase, much like last year's first-half. Green Bay doesn't want to dig a hole this early, but it is a long season.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Well....i never saw so many "negative" shots at a player on our team that was developing into one of the best in the league.
Favre had Chumura and Jackson the year we won the SB. Was that a BAD thing?
The more weapons we have, the better. Now defenses have even MORE reason to pin their ears back and just rush AR. He no longer has Finley as a quick outlet.
Hard for me to see that as a "positive".
I DO understand what you guys are saying though. I guess we will see in the coming weeks whether or not it turned out not to be so bad.
I'm HOPING you guys are right.......otherwise, that means things went bad.

Who says who an offense should or shouldn't revolve around? He's our biggest playmaker right now and the biggest matchup problem on the team. Why shouldn't the offense "revolve" around him?

Exactly I don't get all of the talk about Rodgers being obsessed with Finley when going into the game this week him Jennings AND Driver all had the same amount of targets. It's not like Finley was on pace for 100+ catches like Sharpe used to be all the time.
