Green Bay -- Linebackers Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar have officially been ruled out for the game at Washington by Packers coach Mike McCarthy; so has cornerback Sam Shields.

McCarthy wanted to see how Charlie Peprah felt with the quadricep after the Friday practice, in which he participated. Peprah said he felt well, which means he will likely start at safety.

It really sounds like Nick Collins is going to gut it out and play through his knee injury to help the team. If so, the Packers are set in the safety spot with him and Peprah. He told me he doesn't have any limitations with his mobility but that his knee felt weak. Everyone else said he'll play, however.

At inside linebacker, it looks like it will be Desmond Bishop and A.J. Hawk.

McCarthy and assistant coach Winston Moss both said the future is still uncertain for Barnett and Chillar. McCarthy said Chillar got positive feedback on the second opinion he sought in his injured shoulder on Thursday. Barnett was still undergoing tests today so McCarthy didn't have much of an update there for now.

Bummed that Shields is missing time - I wanted to see him continue to develop.
