Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin pointed out some interesting statistics, according to Demovsky. "

In the offensive meeting on Monday, Philbin pointed out that through four games this season, the offense has scored more points than it did a year ago at the same point in the season, have cut down on their sacks by 75 percent and are better on third downs," writes Demovsky.

The statistic on sacks is of particular attention given that the Packers gave up 51 sacks last season.

While that may be true, why do I feel as uneasy this year as I did last year?

With the injuries, significant injuries, piling up, we don't seem to be doing anything to plug the holes. Its kind of like we are crossing our fingers and hoping.

Granted I don't know you from Adam, but I would say the reason you feel as uneasy as you do last year is because of the high expectations this year. They're playing better than last year, but the expectations were also higher than last year. So, relatively speaking, no matter how good they were last year or are this year, if you perceive them to be playing at the same degree below your own expectations, that would cause you to feel the same amount of uneasiness.

You got it! Expectations were through the roof thanks to the offseason and especially the preseason. Our offense is unstoppable against bland preseason defenses. There's nothing to read pre-snap and our guys win 90% of their 1 on 1 battles and when Aaron can locate them easily, good luck trying to stop the machine.

Ok, looking at last year's schedule, I realized that the Packers have not scored more points this year than last. Our defense must have scored in a couple of those games.

After a couple minutes of research. We had 1 INT return for TD against Cincinnati and a fumble returned for a TD against Minnesota.

I'm not sure how they come up with our offense scoring more points unless they are talking that they scored more TDs.

I come up with 106 this year vs 118 last year. To this point in the season, we had 2 defensive TDs and no special team TDs, this year we have one defensive TD and no special team.

To me that reads that the 2009 offense scored 106 and the 2010 offense has scored 100. We had 10 offensive TDs in 2009 vs 12 so far this year.

So I guess the offense isn't responsible for FGs. Ok, I can handle that.

After further review of the stats, I find that our total yards are -78 2009 vs 2010 and our defense is giving up less yards by 128. But the alarming trend that I see is that we have gave up the ball 5 more times this year and taken it away 2 less times.

The offensive line is hardly better this year than it was last year... at least so far. Judging an OL with sacks only is dumb, you need to countat least:

1) Pressures
2) Average time before the ball is thrown
3) Penalties

Rodgers gets rid of the ball really quick this season to mask how much the OL sucks... but that leads to way more INTs.

Being better so far this year than last year is nothing to be proud of, considering how poorly the Packers started last year. And Finland makes a good point. Rodgers is having to roll out and run around a lot back there this year. I don't think the OL is struggling as much as it did early last season, but the improvement is not as great as the sack totals suggest, and they are not as good as they were in the second half of last season. Clifton and Tauscher have both declined.

We can compare last season all we want to this season.. but the variables of whom we played aren't being represented in that four game analysis.

There are a ton more reasons to like the Packers this season than not.. but that doesn't mean there are not concerns that are valid with the 2010 Packers.

It is all how we deal with those both in terms of roster makeup and the players on the roster making plays to offset the losses.

One can only make an opinion or in Ted's case a decision on what he sees in front of him. And we will only know how the decision made play out a week after the season is over.

But the fun and the reason we are so plugged in is our individual opinions midstream.. and we can defend our opinions all we want.. but we won't know if they are valid til that same point.. a week after the season is over.

Well, I look at this way and that is we are 3-1 and haven't played well yet so that is a plus. We are in a very similar position as the Saints and that really isn't all bad.

The big difference in this year is the record but the trend of not getting out of the blocks well continues. It happens to other teams. San Diego comes to mind.

Look, the season is 16 games and all teams are going to go through periods where they play better than others. I would rather build momentum and get our act together as the season goes along than play great early and not be able to keep it up because the last 1/4 of the season is always critical.

I said before the season good teams find a way to win when they don't play well so from that perspective we are better than last year. The defense is a little beat up and Rodgers hasn't hit his stride yet. I am looking for the later to step up and make it a little easier for the D.

I am hoping for a couple more wins and then getting a few players back that will help us get where we need to be but I don't look for anything to be easy unless the offense catches fire. They are scoring points but it seems like every game they could have easily put up more.

Zero2Cool (2h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (2h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (2h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (2h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (2h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (2h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (2h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (3h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (3h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (3h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (3h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (3h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (3h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (3h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (3h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (3h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (3h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (3h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (3h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (3h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (3h) : Packers will get in
beast (3h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
packerfanoutwest (3h) : they still are in the playoffs
packerfanoutwest (3h) : If Packers lose the remaining games,,,,at 10-7
Zero2Cool (5h) : We can say it. We don't play.
Mucky Tundra (6h) : But to say they are in is looking past the Saints
Mucky Tundra (6h) : That said, their odds are very favorable with a >99% chance of making the playoffs entering this week's games
Mucky Tundra (6h) : Packers are not in and have not clinched a playoff spot.
buckeyepackfan (7h) : Packers are in, they need to keep winning to improve their seed#.
Mucky Tundra (16h) : Getting help would have been nice, but helping ourselves should always be the plan
beast (16h) : Too bad Seahawks couldn't beat Vikings
bboystyle (17h) : We just need to win Monday night and were in
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (20h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
