....for a 4th, and a conditional 2012 pick. I am a little disappointed.....from every account, the Packers were active in working a deal for him, but my guess is that Lynch's agent expressed vast reservations about a new home in GB...which is much like Buffalo culturally and weather-wise, and a place that Lynch clearly hated being.

DeAngelo Williams will cost a boat load, so I do not expect a move there. This Nance kid better have something he brings to the table, or we may be screwed.

Bills RB Marshawn Lynch traded....to the Seahawks
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel

Oct. 5, 2010 1:36 p.m. |(30) Comments

Green Bay - Any thoughts of the Packers trading for Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch are gone.

The Seahawks have acquired the 24-year-old former Pro Bowl back for a fourth-round pick in 2011, and a conditional pick in '12, according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com.

Seems like fair value for a player Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a college teammate of Lynch's, advocated the team getting.

Interesting that the team to acquire Lynch was the Seahawks. The general manager under coach Pete Carroll is former long-time Thompson aide John Schneider.

With the Packers, part of Schneider's duties was to find and work on potential trades. He would work on deals, similar to the Lynch trade, and then submit them to Thompson. He then often passed.

It was a source of frustration for Schneider, according to a column by Bob McGinn earlier this season (Insider subscribers only). Here's a snippet:

Schneider remained the same well-compensated employee whether his recommendations were acted upon or not. But, as with most walks of life, when a lot of work basically never reaches fruition, a level of disappointment is sure to follow.

So much for the Buffalo Bills driving a hard bargain when it comes to a possible trade of running back Marshawn Lynch.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Seahawks have finagled Lynch from the Bills for a fourth-round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012.

As recently as Monday, the prevailing word was that, even though Lynch wanted out, the Bills wouldn't be trading him.

Now they have. And the 2-2 Seahawks have picked up a potentially powerful weapon for their run at the NFC West crown.

Meanwhile, the Packers continue to have no one to run the ball. As we pointed out in this week's power rankings, the pass-heavy attack should be working really well when the weather turns at Lambeau Field.

Lynch is under contract through 2012, but it's possible that the sixth year of his rookie deal voids.

4th and conditional pick up to a 3rd I think would have been fair. I don't know the details on the conditional pick.

More than fair. I hate to second-guess, but damn... seemed like a no-brainer to me.

and I'm saying it'd be cool with me (cuz ya know the Packers asked me) if it went up to a 3rd, so a later round is also cool too.

I'd like to hear the story on why we didn't do the same trade, UNLESS, the things Marschawn Lynch said about NOT wanting to play in Green Bay ... are ... TRUE!!!!!!!!

Wish I could find those damn quotes again ...

All this talk about us giving up James Jones or A.J. Hawk? Wow. Seattle got a bargain. They spent a 4th rounder on what's 2-3rd round talent.

To be fair.. what do you expect? Ted isn't going to explain why he didn't get the deal done.. so people are going to assume:

A) He doesn't think we need an upgrade.

B) Thought the deal was too rich..

C) Got beat upon the trade table.. and some will compare it to Moss.

D) That he though the risk was too great for a player that is one strike away from a year long suspension.. he already had a 3 game rip for personal conduct.

E) Etc...

But because Ted isn't a fan base friendly GM.. we will not know why we didn't obtain Lynch.. just it will be left open to fester.. much like 07 and 08 again..
