"we need to continue to find ways to keep our weapons on the field at all times" was a quote that Rodgers kept repeating in his post-game press conference today Aaron Rodgers' press conference

He also seemed a little frustrated that the packers weren't in shotgun and spreading the field more. Maybe I'm reading between the lines too much on this quote and the tone of his conference, but it certainly seemed to be a little pent up frustration on his part.

I thought that quote was a little odd, until the stat was pointed out to me that we threw the ball 17 times today, while rushing it 18 times.

Obviously we are a pass first team, more so with the loss of Grant. I think his frustration today speaks to the coaches (well, McCarthy really) trying to run the ball simply to show he has a capable RB in Jackson.

Aaron is your best playmaker on offense. Your best chance to move the ball comes when it is in his hands. Frankly, it wouldn't be that bad if we went into "Aaron playing Madden" mode and let him sling it around for small and big pass completions.

Someone else put it well in another thread that Mike uses the run just to pay it lip service - Basically cram in your 'daily allotment' to say you got it in

I'm torn on what's best...at some point the team has to be able to run the damn ball, and right now it seems forced, and completely incapable of sustaining a running-dominant drive at will. This is an issue, but as you say, for the time being, the madden version of the packers seems to be most succesful.

I also sensed some hostility coming from rodgers, potentially aimed at Mike and co.

I agree with Arod, quit trying to force a freaking running game when you can throw the ball all day.

Frustration, yes. Hostility, no.

I didn't mind them trying to run the ball more in this game, but it did seem that there wasn't much of an attempt to establish a short passing game. I think a lot of the problem was that the defense was so soft, so the offense kept getting cold. And they created a lot of their own problems by failing to convert some short third downs.

Yes, they should run the old '07 game plan. Use quick, short passes to compensate for the lack of a running game. Why have they not tried to do something like this?

Total speculation here but maybe Favre was responsible for a lot of that? We know how often he likes to change the call, maybe he was checking out of a lot of runs. Rodgers seemed to do the opposite today, I saw him change the call to a run numerous times. Didn't seem to work too often..

There is such thing of forcing things and McCarthy did that today. He forced the run and the deep ball to Jennings when the game was 28-23 was ridiculous. That was a perfect time to get the passing game in rhythm and have a long drive to put Detroit away. Not to mention, the defense was tiring. When I see Charles Woodson huffing and puffing, I know B.J. Raji is probably feeling bad himself.

I'm not going to lie, I wanted 35 points. I rather of seen the Packers ice the game and give the ball back to Detroit than play the way they did.

In game plan's defense, Green Bay barely had the football, so who knows what McCarthy had planned for the next 20 plays. Let's be honest, 35 plays is unacceptable.

I've already been pegged as pro-Favre so I didn't want to say it myself. Your probably right, as much as I like Rodgers, he doesn't seem to make a lot of quick passes. Instead he likes to let plays open up completely before throwing. I really hate how he checks into a run play every time he sees blitz too. Maybe this is what I am missing in the offense....the short YAC passes.
