mm said in '07 RB by committee is the wrong thing to do for the team.

He's using Brandon and John Kuhn by committee this year.

I think if Brandon's contract is up this year, he's no longer a Packer. Brandon thinks he's a legit starter, he's not.

It's only been two games, but he lacks the drive to the hole a RB must have.

He's always done well against the Lions so we should get a 100 yarder out of him.

I still say ... if his contract is up this year, he's not on our roster this time in 2011.

It was good of mm to give him a fair shot at the start, but in the run game he isn't very effective at all.

To bad he can't be matched up against second string defenses in the regular season, or it would be another story!

Brandon Jackson cannot find a hole with the offensive line as presently constituted. That is what we know so far. He might be an awesome running back if there was some modicum of a friggin' hole created - I personally doubt it, but at once know that it is possible that his running might improve exponentially if there ever was a GD hole.

You want to dump someone, I'd dump Cliffy, Colledge and Tausch. I'd do it in one fell swoop. I'd do it this week, too--I swear I would. Put 'em all on the GD bench, and dance with the new girls we brung that are presently on the depth chart instead of in the game. Let's see if we have someone that can run block, because they damn sure cannot, and the penalties are such an obvious hint that they are overmatched in pass protection as well...

Be done with it. I'm sick of all three. I'm tired of getting bullshat by this line. Cliffy and Tausch are too old, and Colledge has been far more of a liability on this team than an asset...

Oh, and I agree with Kev based on what we actually DO know about Jackson. He IS a bust for the GBP and the ZBS. Nebraska, right? I hear they got those corn-fed linemen there...no wonder he did not suck in college...

Edit---NEVERMIND---Our running game is GOOD! So is our LINE! Mike says so! :thumbleft:

From the title of this thread, I thought Brandon Jackson must be out with a season-ending injury.

My first thought: "Sounds like 2005 all over again . . . "

Brandon Jackson has been groomed as a third-down back for the last two years. He's good at catching the ball out of the backfield and he's good at picking up the blitz.

He is not, and never has been, an every-down running back. We need Lynch.

And dfosterf's link  really saddens me. It tells me that MM has been told he's not getting a new running back, so he has to talk up the ones we have,

"You have to look at what's the definition of the run game."

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Bill Clinton. And I suppose it depends on what our definition of the word "is" is, too.

He said Clifton would remain the starting left tackle as long as his body holds up.

What a rosy outlook. What a positive prognosis.

The worst thing about this whole situation is he was talking like this before the season even started. We knew full well Clifton wouldn't hold up for the season, yet we threw truckloads of money at him anyway. Clifton should have started this season as the veteran backup, to be brought in if our younger players struggled. That would have been in his long-term best interest and probably the short-term best interest of the team too. He probably could have had a couple of years in the tank as a backup. As it is, this season could easily destroy his knees and be his last.

I have a lot of respect for Ted Thompson, but this organization's bullheaded determination to hold onto homegrown players baffles me sometimes.

Sounds the same way to me on the RBs, too bad. I'd sooner see Ahman Green come back than what we have.

If the young players were really as good I'm sure they would be playing. They have an upside, Cliffy and Tausch don't. Also, their confidence could be destroyed by someone like Peppers. If they improve enough to beat Cliffy and Tausch out, great. The position improves and I think Cliffy and Tausch would be great insurance as backups.

I agree with Zero and you both on this one. I am getting really tired of Clifton and Tauscher, just like anybody else, BUT Grant was able to hit the hole at 75-100% full speed, where Jackson hits it at 25-50%, no exaggeration of any kind. I think he'll be gone next year, and I HOPE that he is, probably along with a few o-linemen.

One thing that should be noted however is that Rodgers had 45 pass attempts against the Bears and he was not sacked once, nor was he sacked against the Bills. Yeah I know there were holds. Still though, impressive.

Wow. A lot of Cliffy and Tausch hate. Think I prefer a few penalties to risking the long-term health of the franchise (Rodgers). We've only given up 3 sacks and Jackson would be a sub-average back behind any line in the league (as he was in college); plus I don't think Bulaga is ready for primetime and one whiff against these monstrous DEs could be disaster.

Agree about Colledge. He sucks out loud.

I don't hate any of them, although Colledge did piss me off this past off-season with his mouth.

The contributions by both Chad and Mark - I'll always admire that.

Colledge has an incredible work ethic.
This is the NFL, aka not for long...
Loyalty at the expense of rationality --- I'm not going with that philosophy, sorry.

As I have said repeatedly over the past two years...STARTING two years ago--Ted needed to address this o-line---He was LATE in doing so. My very first post on this site I said so- in the "Welcome" thread...

You look around the NFCN and it is OBVIOUS that you BETTER have a great o-line... A GREAT one, not a serviceable one. This line is regressing, and why wouldn't it? Cliffy is DONE being able to hold his own against the better pass rushers in this league, which we have several of in this division, and Tausch looks done as well.

Recognize it, get over it, and fix it by getting the new guys in and seeing what they can do. They LOOK like they can get it done. Pack93z is high on Lang, and I agree--not as LT--he's crazy on that one... Get him at RT if health permits, stick Bulaga at LT- He sure looks like a MAJOR upgrade in the run game there--- Go clone Lang and put the clone at LG---that's a shoutout to Wade who wanted ANOTHER o-lineman in this draft, lol--

I want to see how our PASS PROTECTION looks with a GOOD run block o-line-- I bet it improves dramatically as a result.

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
