GREEN BAY - Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will be named the NFCs defensive player-of-the-week today. Thats according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, which cites league sources.
Matthews had three sacks in last Sundays win over Buffalo. And he became the first NFL player to knock the quarterback for a loss three times in back-to-back games since the stat was created in 1982. With 14 games left, Matthews only needs four more sacks to match the 10 sacks he had in his rookie season of 2009.
This is the second straight week a Packer is getting an NFC honor. Kicker Mason Crosby was named the top special teams player a week ago. The Packer players are getting two days off from practice. Theyll return tomorrow, to start working on the game plan for Monday nights match-up against the Bears in Chicago.
