Yeah, I know it's history and we won and I should just be happy with that, but something's been bothering me.

We've had a lot of discussions this week about AJ Hawk and why he didn't play. It's because we were in the nickel and dime all day. My question is, "Why?"

When Kolb went out, why didn't we switch back to base defense? We all know that Vick is more of a threat as a runner than as a pocket passer. Wouldn't that linebacker been more useful than that extra CB?

That doesn't make any sense. With Michael Vick on the field, you want your fastest people on the field.

DB's are faster than LB's.

It's not just about fastest. You have to also look a the distance to the target they would be. So even if a DB is 25% faster than a LB, if they are 50-100% further away on the field, the LB should and could still get there first.

Very true, but I feel the need to point out that "getting there" doesn't get the job done. Tackling Vick is just as hard as catching Vick, IMO. What's my point? I guess I don't have one.

So the defensive coordinator is supposed to to give up the LOS and assume Vick will be scrambling into the secondary?

We were winning the game 27-10 when Vick came in full time. That is not when you stay in a base defense. Had they done that and Philly burns us with two long TD throws eveybody would be wondering what the hell Capers is doing.

Th bottom line is our offense gave Philly too many chances to get back in it and put our defense on the field entirely to long. There's no excuse for not putting more points up when we're bring KO returns back to the 40 and 50 yard line.

One more score and Philly was toast regardless of what Vick does. That was a very poor 2nd half for Rodgers. He did make the one nice pass to Jennings but aside from that it was a poor showing for him.

You keep putting any teams offense back on the field at home and your asking for trouble.

First off, we never played base defense against the eagles, we were nickel and dime the entire game, i thought we went over this already?

Watching the film earlier in the week.. I asked myself the same thing and it opened a question from last season on in game adjustments I had then.

At times last season, cough MN, I was disappointed in the lack of adjusting to the offense.

But then I watched Vick run around linebacker after linebacker and thought maybe base or a spy backer isn't the correct idea with a talent as only Vick is.. he is just doing to run past them anyway.

I think, in watching, Dom was trying to keep as much depth with his defense as he could while still applying pressure.. with depth he was going to give up yards but not home runs and playing with multiple score lead he figured that they wouldn't have enough time to come all the way back.. and believing we would continue to score.

Listening to Moss on the sidelines in "Replay".. you could tell they were worried about the "explosive" homerun type of plays more so than chunks of yards here or there.

Additionally, while I agree Vick is a average to slightly below average passer.. Mike Vick is going to take hold of that Eagles offense and if he plays at the level of this past week.. may make the Eagles one hell of a dangerous offensive team.. piss on the Cowboys.. I think the Eagles in that case become the division winner in the East.

this is the reason teams always come back on us. that and mccarthy shutting down the offense.

How did McCarthy shut down the offense this time against the Eagles. Look at the drive charts and playcalls, McCarthy wasn't the issue. Something to also look at the tape from this game was the coverage style. We played under technique, meaning the defenders covering weren't facing the line of scrimmage, so once Vick released it was already too late and they were in chase mode.

see the drive after they scored to make it 27-20. everybody and their brother knew mccarthy was gonna run the ball and fail to do anything other than punt them the ball with plenty of time to tie the game. guess what he did?

inb4 "our offense sucked that day"
i realize that but its the same thing every time regardless.
