Finley, Havner, Crabtree, Quarless.

I believe Lee is going to be traded or cut. When Havner and Crabtree bring the same thing to the table as Lee, you don't pay Lee salary which is larger than Finley's. This is a business, and it also not personal.

You cannot pay reserves starter money and expect to keep good morale in a locker room. We have a bigger mess with our linebacking corp.

Quarless will not make it to the practice squad without someone claiming him, but he has not beat out Lee. This decision will be purely about the future.

I'm not sure about your premise that Havner and Crabtree bring the same thing to the table as Lee. In fact, I suspect Lee is probably still well ahead of both of them in nearly every phase of the game. As for locker room morale, Lee is one of the most respected veterans on the team, so I think morale will decline if he is cut.

Not to mention he's Finley's mentor and Finley still needs someone like Lee. I agree that releasing Lee would have a bigger effect than keeping him.

I think people overrated Quarless quite a bit on this board. He's not the next Finley IMO.

Finley was extremely raw and not NFL ready his first year, just like Quarless. Quarless has shown he was a better blocker than FInley was his rookie year, and Quarless has shown he can get very open at times just like Finley.

I'm not saying Quarless will be the next Finley because to have one Finley is rare... but Quarless has shown on the potential of being pretty dang similar as far as skill set and pretty good upside.

Quarless has the most catches in one year by a TE in the history of Penn State and had 1 fumble and 0 lost in 89 catches. His measurable are all very similar to Fin. He ran a 4.54 40 is 6' 4 1/2" and weighs 254 lbs. Fin ran a 4.65 and is 6'5" and 247.

Quarless is actually more experienced than Fin coming out of College. He played 41 games in 4 years. Fin played 26 in 2 years.

They were actually both freshmen in '06. It is almost like Fin is what Quarless could have been if he hadn't almost partied himself out of college.

Quarless probably isn't the next Finley.. Finley is a physically gifted freak.

But on the other hand.. I think Quarless could become a nice compliment to Finley in the next season or two.. someone that is not as versatile but bring more to the table than Lee or Havner.

I think giving up on him this soon is an error.. as I hardly think a single camp vs his college production deems it worthy to give up on him.

IMO... this will be one of the toughest cuts on the team.. Crabtree brings special teams and power blocking to the table.. something that none of the others bring.

At the end of the day.. a talented football player will be removed from the roster.. and probably will find a home elsewhere in a hurry.

Or maybe we get some return value from one of them.. but likely that only Lee would bring something in return.. and there you give up the veteran presence at the position to kind of keep Finley grounded.

I think this position will be THE toughest cut(s). Wish we could stash one and trade one.

Quarless had his best game. He made a couple of nice catches and blocked better than usual. I was impressed. I gotta say though, Donald Lee might not make this team. I've changed my mind. I was watching the TEs a lot and the only real reason for Lee to be on the field is..... well I got nothing.

Crabtree is a better blocker. Quarless has more athleticism. I guess Lee would be a guy to use inside the 20s, but Havner could do that as could Crabtree.

It's one game and I plan to watch more and come to a decision later, but I definitely have to change my tune. I think Lee is probably the odd man out.

I'm beginning to wonder the same thing after last night's game. Maybe Lee just didn't have any opportunities to shine, but all of these other guys are looking so good that it's going to be hard to keep them off the roster.

Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (10-Feb) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
