I think so too. If they cut or trade Lee and then Finley gets hurt, there will be very little experience at the TE position, plus Lee has a much broader skill-set than the younger guys.

Yes, I think Lee should definitely stick around this season at least. If he's going to go, perhaps next year will make the most sense. A salary cap might be back, our younger guys will be a bit more experienced, etc. Unless Lee has a breakout year again, I can see this being his last season as a Packer.

Pay Check doesn't matter near as much with no cap.

Not to derail the thread too much, but paycheck absolutely does matter because the team needs to stay profitable. While there is no NFL imposed salary cap, the team's management will decide internally what is the most amount of money they are willing to spend on labor.

If a company can get the same production with lower costs they'll do it.

Alright I think that's kinda taken out of context. Yes teams need to stay profitable, but the point was they're not gonna cut a player just because he's making a tad more than another... it's still gonna come down to who's better player...

On channel 5 news last night, they showed Crabtree catching some passes in practice, and he looked fairly agile. That was good to see. All you ever hear about is his blocking, but nowadays, especially in this offense, a TE needs to be a pretty good receiver. (The same goes for fullbacks, which is why Quinn Johnson is still behind Hall and Kuhn on the depth chart.)

Crabtree has the skills to do good in the passing game; I think I read he ran a 4.6 40. Impressive.

The more I think about it, the more I think we trade one of the TEs for something. Too crowded, and we simply can't afford to, roster-wise, keep all 5 TEs.

I think there's only 1 spot for Havner, Quarless and Crabtree to be honest.

Finley, Havner, Crabtree, Quarless.

I believe Lee is going to be traded or cut. When Havner and Crabtree bring the same thing to the table as Lee, you don't pay Lee salary which is larger than Finley's. This is a business, and it also not personal.

You cannot pay reserves starter money and expect to keep good morale in a locker room. We have a bigger mess with our linebacking corp.

Quarless will not make it to the practice squad without someone claiming him, but he has not beat Lee. This decision will be purely about the future.

I could see one TE traded and another getting injured.
