OK, help me out here as I know a lot of people would know this better than I do. We have to cut down to 53. No names, just numbers.

Offense:
QB - 2
RB - 3
FB - 2
TE - 4
WR - 5
OL -9

That's 25 Offensive players

Defense:
DL - ?
LB - ?
S - ?
CB - ?

It should total to 25.

Special Teams:
K - 1
P - 1
LS - 1

That's 3 ST players.

Also, if you think I'm wrong on numbers, argue why. Personally I prefer to have 6 WRs and 3 TEs but it looks like we're going to go 5 vs 4 instead.

Me? I'd probably go with 7 DL, 9LBers, 4 Safeties and 5 Corners. And if your 4th safety can play some corner, all the better.

After the third preseason game, I'm planning on posting or maybe doing an article for the forum on my predictions on who Ted Thompson will keep.

Right now, I would have it like this

QBs - 2
RBs - 3
FBs - 2
WRs - 5
TEs - 4
OL - 9
DL - 7
LBs 8
DBs 10
STs 3

I did at one time have GB keeping an extra offensive lineman and releasing another LB because of the versatility of Brandon Chiller. However, Breno G's performance in the two preseason games have made me question that move.

I agree with zombie and porky on the offense, but on defense I would go with 6 DLs, 8 LBs, 5 safeties, and 6 CBs. I think it's good to load up on DB's because they get injured so often. At CB, we already have five who are locks to make the team--Woodson, Harris, Williams, Underwood, and Lee--and there's almost certainly going to be one more, probably either Bush or Shields. At safety, there are already four for sure--Collins, Burnett, Bigby, and Blackmon--and there will probably be another one, most likely Derrick Martin but maybe Charlie Peprah.

I have it similar to what GB did last year.

QB 2
RB 3
FB 3 (I think the 3rd FB is prob better than the 4th TE)
TE 3
WR 5
OL 9 (Those last linemen are really not guys I want to see out there on the field.)

DL 6 (It helps that several can play more than one position.)
LB 9 (Is Havner really a LB or TE? It helps that he can play both.)
CB 5
S 5 (Can be 6-4 if Bush/Shields bump Peprah. Also depends on Harris/Bigby.)

What I'm thinking about

QB - 2
RB - 2 (Kuhn the 3rd RB)
FB - 3
TE - 4
WR - 5
OL -9

Defense:
DL - 6
LB - 8
S - 5
CB - 6

Special Teams:
K - 1
P - 1
LS - 1

QB 2
RB 3
FB 2 (I'd rather have Crabtree or Quarless as the 4th TE than Quinn as a 3rd FB.)
TE 4
WR 5
OL 9

DL 7 (Going with 7 because I want an effective front 3 that always has fresh legs)
LB 8 (I think we are fine with 8 LBs as I count Havner as the 9th if need be.)
CB 6 (Might swap a DL for a 7th CB once Harris and Bigby are all resolved and active. I'm not confident in Trambone, Underwood, Lee, Bush or Shields.)
S 4 (I don't see a reason to keep both Martin and Peprah unless we plan to play more 3 safety looks to minimize the impact of our dime CBs that I'm scared of.)

DL - 6 or 7 I think 7
LB - 7 or 8
S - 5
CB - 5

PK - 1
P - 1
LS - 1

QB - 2
RB - 4 Is Kuhn #3?
FB - 2
TE - 4
WR- 5
OL - 9

Consider this.
The 3rd FB is better on special teams than the #8 LB.
The 3rd FB is better on special teams than the 4th TE.

If Quinn Johnson makes the roster, it's not as a special teams player. He'll be a liability there. I think he's a great lead blocker and I hope he makes the team for that reason, but I don't think the scenario you lay out is possible right now.
