So we have 4 tight ends deserving of a roster spot and a rookie 5th round picking oozing with potential, but immature, and would be snagged from our practice squad roster.

Simple solution - Keep 4, only keep 2 fullbacks this year, and trade Donald Lee for a late round draft pick if, and a big if, someone is willing to take on his contract. Donald Lee is a good blocker but has dropped too many balls to warrant his contract and a rosters spot over the young guys.

Keep in mind 6 TEs and FBs combined is 2 more than a regular team has.

And it was last year, as well.

Some weird theories going around, btw.

We keep Grant and Jackson as the only true HBs and keep John Kuhn as a hybrid HB/FB. That frees up some spots for TEs and FBs on the roster.

I don't see why Crabtree couldn't beat out Havner or Quarless.

Quarless looks so horribly raw that they might try to sneak him into the PS.

Havner caught a whopping 7 balls for 112 yards last year. Yeah, I know, all he does is catch TDs, but that sounds more of an incidental stat than anything else.

IMO Havner is a lock to make the 53, alone because of his tremendous versatility. You can use him on both sides of the ball and additionally he's good at special teams. I think Finley and Havner will make the team with Lee and Quarless both having a 50% chance. If the Packers can trade Lee, even better, I doubt it, though.

I'm thinking the same thing about Havner.

Teams are paranoid about injuries ruining their seasons and players who can play decently both ways, their stocks shoot up.

You could probably make a case that all 32 teams had one season in the last ten years ruined by injury. Ours was obviously 2005.

Using an extreme example, but just saying that I'm sure versatility makes your stock shoot up.

I can't see anyway they put Quarless on the PS, that would be a one way ticket to Meridith(sp) lane. They will do everything in their power to shop Lee, and if not I say he's cut. I think if a big injury hit's a team, Lee can be shopped for a 6th, or 7th. He was a starter for a ton of years and still would be if Finley wasn't such a freak.

Lee has had an excellent camp. Every time I turn the local show on, he's making some sort of crazy play. Now I'm going off of others accounts, which I don't like to do, but I think it's safe to say that he's done a nice job.

I don't think Quarless is the player people think he is. I know we're looking for another Finley, but I gotta say, I think he's the odd man out in the group right now. Him or Havner and Havner's versatility makes him to valuable to release.

I have yet to see Crabtree catch a pass or even have a pass thrown his way, so it's hard to get excited about him. Meanwhile Quarless made a very nice catch for a first down against Seattle, and he had a couple of catches against the Browns. And Havner is having a strong camp. Crabtree is a nice story, but I still see him as #5 on the TE depth chart.

I haven't seen enough to make a prediction, either, but I don't see why he couldn't make it if he shows some potential.

I don't think Havner's and Quarless' spots as the nr. 3 and 4 TE, respectively, are set in stone. Mainly because of the reasons I mentioned earlier.

And this whole versatility thing does little to me. You know why he's a TE? He couldn't make the roster as a LB after spending a year on the PS.

You know who brings versatility, as well? Barbre. So did Tony Moll. Bush can play both safety and corner.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to like Havner so much. Yes he had those TD catches, but he was used like Vrabel and even Warren Sapp, as a guy who teams won't really pay attention to. Also the fact that he can "play" two positions, shouldn't be cause for excitement because, IMO, it means he isn't wowing anybody at a certain position. I'd rather keep Quarless and/or Crabtree and an actual linebacker such as Zombo instead of losing one or more of these guys to keep Havner.

TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : Getting Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round in 2023 was pretty darn good
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : for some reason i'm thinking of a draft where the Eagles where in the mid 20s and a top player fell all the way to them

Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (10-Feb) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (10-Feb) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
