Haven't had the chance to see more than a few replays at this point.

Grant: He'll be fine, barring the concussion being at all severe. Sucks to put the ball on the turf, but better to do it in a meaningless pre-season game. He shut me and my complaints up last year - he's a strong, productive runner who can by-and-large be counted on to avoid screwing things up, and that's just about the right kind of back for the system. Personally, I'd love to see someone more electric out there, but at this point I'll take Grant.

ST: Gah. I hope that improves.

Defense: I don't think you can ever feel good about Delhomme and the Browns marching up and down the field, but it sure is nice to read that Harrell had a decent showing. Depth where we need it, and once they get healthy I'm hoping Capers has some wrinkles he's deliberately not showing in the pre-season.

Looking forward to seeing more w/ my own eyes.

These games are nothing more then players getting ready for game action in the regular season. That is all. It is good to practice success but a lot of the starters will be just getting their feet ready for the regular season. IMO it's probably more important to get the timing in the passing game down compared to the other elements. Also it's the time to watch which young players look good ect.

Rodgers is quite simply one of the best QBs in the game, period!

Shields should never "field" another punt as long as he lives.

The D, although called plain Jane, still generated NO pass rush....not a big fan of that! Delhomme looked like Sammy Baugh out there!

That TD run by Kuhn was hard nosed as hell...kudos!

You know, I am actually glad there have been some less than stellar performances in the first preseason game.

Or preseason for that matter. Take a look at records in the years past. Preseason means nothing, other than I pray nobody gets injured and the right people become the Packers 53.

I think we may be overreacting a bit to Grant's fumble. He had a whopping 1 fumble in regular season last year. He'll be fine.

I watched the game again and analyzed every play in the first half. Defensively, Green Bay didn't show much of anything. They were very vanilla and laid back. From what I saw, the secondary wasn't that bad.

- I liked what I saw out of Tramon Williams. He broke on the ball well. There was one play where he gave up a completion, but it was just a good throw.

- Brandon Underwood needs to get more physical at the line of scrimmage. He looked like he hesitated on putting his hands on the WR. He totally whiffed on a press coverage and Jake Delhomme made him play. I believe it was the fourth down play too.

- The LBs are the concern. Hawk was not strong in coverage and Barnett wasn't very aggressive at all. He was very laid back and didn't look like he was as uptempo as usual. I didn't see them attack. That could be a game plan type of thing, which it is for the most part. But the coverage was not fluid. They looked stiff out there.

- B.J. Raji wasn't handling the double teams well and that allowed the lineman to help and then get to the second level and take on a LB. I recall one guy chipping Raji and then knocking Hawk or Barnett down. The result of that play was the TD run.

- Burnett made a great tackle once and then whiffed on another tackle later on. Ironically, both plays occurred against Peyton Hillis. I didn't see him out of position that much, so I liked what I saw all things considered. I mean, it was his first game. He gets a little more leeway.

- Cullen Jenkins went one on one with Alex Mack a couple of time and Mack dominated him IMO. Actually, Mack really stood out. He had himself a hell of a game.

So overall, I'd say the Browns won in the trenches and the LBs struggled in coverage. That is what stood out to me in the first half.

Offense was great. The offensive line opened up some holes for Grant. He actually had a nice hole on the fumble. He just wasn't protecting the ball very well and the guy swapped at the ball. If he's got more secured, he probably runs through that tackle. Beyond that, I'm not worried about that unit.

man...i just watched "highlight reel" from NFL.com from the past week's opening preseason game...and i have to say...we're not the only starting DEF which gave up some mighty big plays.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

As far as being worried about ST, my advice is don't. I watched an interview Mike McCarthy did on local TV and he said they had held out all the ST standouts like Bush and Bishop to give everybody else a chance to play there. He said they went through the entire depth chart, just on ST. Almost half of the players involved won't make the team. The normal ST players got time on O and D.

This was not our ST starters either. That is why they looked so sloppy.

Watched the game; comments to follow:

- got to love hall and kuhn; be hard pressed to cut either one of them. Kuhns short yardage play was similar to what they ran a shitload all last year

- have to see more on shields to evaluate his returns ...

- love the short passes rodgers was throwing; not really screens just short yardage passes that worked out well.

- love finleys reach; dude grabs the ball out of the air where rodgers throws too; and jennings a beast getting open

- I see a lack with the Dline and our OLBers ... not much penetration from either IMO.

- I noticed an improvement with flynn over last year. He seems more poised and less jittery; still see a bit of lack of arm strength.

- Was pretty impressed with underwood; he looks at least decent now in coverage; last year I thought he was pathetic - this year he could pass for a db.

- slightly impressed with harrell (ya I know); saw him commanding doubles a few times and getting into the backfrield at least twice. Seen more from harrell then I did from neal out there.

- zombo looks decent; looks like a strong guy

- harrell(qb) looked rusty pretty much like brohm IMO. But first nfl appearence so wtfe.

- browns looked decent; tj ward (good for a rookie).

- overall our pass coverage looked a bit better; our Dline and LBers looked a bit soft. Especially our LBers IMO. That cross pattern blitz capers is known for is getting easier to spot by opposing teams IMO.

- porter and lumpkin looked decent; wanted to see jackson more - but maybe his spot is guarenteed because his blocking and its up to the other 2 guys. Not sure which I would go with both looked good; porter looks to be better then shields at returning thou.

Looks green standing up.. but I agree.. kid looks like he could provide a push in the right situations.. year of development and we could have a pass rushing specialist that wouldn't be a liability if he was forced to cover.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
