I have always had a mild dislike for him, but a few days ago that just turned to hate. It doesn't take a lot to set me off. He is a prime example of Psuedo-sportscasters who take no pride in their art.

Monday Night Football classics was on ESPN and the game they were replaying was Packers @ Saints 2008. We were 5-5 going into this game, same as the Saints. When I saw this game live I had to have it on mute because err'one was sleeping, but watching it again made me want to punch his lights out.

I expect ESPN Favre-kissing as part and parcel of the broadcast, what I dislike is the sheer unintelligence in this statement:

"Rodgers not only has to play Brees out there, he has to play Favre"

No Jackass, we are 5-5 and need good performances to get us to the playoffs. Rodgers has to play a porous Saints defence. Our defence needs to stop an on-fire Drew Brees. Brett Favre is a New York Jet. We are having difficulty stopping the run.

Why does he do it? Formulate a ficticious battle in his head and talk about it with self-serving oratory flair, without a clear grasp of what is actually happening?

I know what I am going to get listening to ESPN, but it STILL irks me something fierce.

In closing,

FUCK TONY KORNHOLER.

I've learned to let what they say not bother me. The "Favre VS Rodgers" crap was in full on mode back then.
He was just saying what ALL the "sports guys" were saying at the time.
The "Soup of the day" if you will.

No, I remember that shit. All of the other announcers were becoming audibly annoyed by Kornheiser and his constant mentioning of Favre. I don't know if it was that game, but after the Minnesota game where he seemed to develop a "Favre" vocal tic, it should have been a dead issue. It wasn't.

I remember an ESPN game where Kornheiser was a commentator and someone kept count of how many times Favre was mentioned by Tony. I recall it was 7 before the kickoff already. And it wasn't like it was a game against Favre or anything.
This is a placeholder

I can't even watch PTI anymore. I am so thankful he's off MNF. He's a man who has outlived his time.

I used to like PTI, found it humorous and liked the round robin format.

Yep same game, Al was shooting him down as was everyone else but he stood firm with his rectum pressed up against ol' 4's penis.

You could see it then how painfully out of his depth he was, failing to say anyting pertinent to the actual game.

I actually loved Tony. Not because of any Favre love affair.. or anything he said in particular. See, when watching a game, I enjoy hearing two guys (prefurably objective and if not, I'll gladly listen to PA call the game.. The best homer play by play guy in the biz) call a game and a third for comedic relief. No, Cheesey, not THAT type of relief. (my great grandfather used to love the Rolaids commercials.. "How do YOU spell relief?" He'd answer, "F-A-R-T")

I honestly believe that Kornheiser's intent was to be funny. The problem was, people were taking him seriously. Which is fine and dandy.. except that would make him annoying as sin before the game even started.

I dunno.. Maybe I can read people better.. Or just most football fans have way too high expectations for announcers.

I think broadcast style should be relevant to who you are and who you broadcast to, for example - Paul Allen's call against the Saints, a local broadcast with homer passion - acceptable for what you are watching. You can feel his anger and his pride as he talks BUT

Monday Night Football is (inter)national, the broadcast should be informative, concise and exciting without the need for silly unrelated quips. I am not saying it shouldn't contain humor.. It is difficult to get right, but by lord I think some people on this website could do a better job than that crew.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
