Ted and Mike... make a statement early in this camp and cut this cat... I know the depth on the defensive line is a question.. but speak to your team through actions and end this nonsense.

Ironic that Mike McCarthy calls out Wynn for his effort yet mentions not a word about this obvious eyesore of the camp if a beat reporter can see it..

Well here's the entire issue, you guys are willing to accept a beat reporter's words because it fits in line with peoples already predisposed attitude about Harrell. Now I'm not defending Harrell, but am I to blindly listen to McGinn when I'm not hearing these same reports from anyone else? I want to hear more, is it a trend, was it just that one day, was he the actual reason that drill was stopped? If I try to connect the dots, I saw Harrell playing in the scrimmage and seemingly doing his job. So these comments from McGinn to me don't quite add up since he's the only one making them. Just my two cents.

I don't know about others but I'm just happy he's healthy for once...

the guy is showing he isn't in football season shape yet ... has happened to Pickett in the past and he then showed up well in the season...

Maybe this is because I'm a fat guy who struggles in the heat, but this doesn't look like a man who is particularly bothered by the heat.

It's not particularly good posture, but to me it looks like either:

1. He's real intent on what the other players are doing, perhaps thinking about leverage or whatever. (optimistic view)
OR
2. He's bored. (pessimistic view).

IMO, "dogging it because of the heat" as a possibility is a distant third.

I'm inclined to go with 1: Look carefully at the eyes. He seems pretty intent on what's happening in front of him. The odd tilt of his body may be incident to him leaning sideways to get a better view. His mouth is closed. He doesn't look like he's panting or otherwise struggling with the heat. He doesn't appear to be particularly sweaty. His hands aren't on his waist. Sure, he's got a roll around his waist, but that's not unusual for linemen after all; and it isn't a Grady Jackson sort of roll.

The "routine has become commonplace" implication definitely bothers me, but the photo to me doesn't match the claim. In fact, may suggest the opposite when it comes to JH's attention.

Of course, I've never been as impressed by McGinn as others (and he himself) seems to be. So that bias may be entering into things.

Hehe. Actually, one of the (many) reasons I left law just a few years after starting is that I was lousy in the courtroom. And a bigger one was my realization that I was not willing to put my own feelings aside and give everyone zealous representation regardless of whether I'd associate with them otherwise.

I don't subscribe to the JS's "premium" content. Has McGinn or anyone else spoken of Harrell dogging it before? ISTM that if a poor work ethic has "become commonplace", we should have heard more of about it before now.

Oh, I've heard fans speak of him being "fat and lazy". But I haven't heard much reporting to that effect. I've heard talk about how he can't stay healthy, yes. Worries about whether the back will recur, yes. How this is a make or break moment for Harrell. That, too.

But while that goes to whether he will or should make the team, it doesn't go to the question of his attitude and work ethic the way this McGinn piece does. Now I'm not as tune to the local press (I refuse to pay for internet news, and I am boycotting Packernews after they asked me for demographic information for the umpteenth time), so I might have missed it. But work-ethic-wise, all I've heard to this point was that he was working hard and diligently to rehab and get in shape and meet the challenge, etc.

The major "evidence" McGinn presents, at least in this article, is one picture. And, IMO, that picture doesn't speak the thousand words that McGinn and the rest of you seem to think it does.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Normally I agree 100%... however this kid has been healthy all offseason and should be popping at camp instead of getting any type of press such as this.

Go back and look at some of my quotes on this guy this offseason.. I want him to succeed here.. I want him to have some positive impact on the Packers... however if he is dogging it.. a guy that needs to impress and the coaching staff allows it.. it sends the wrong message to those that are busting their asses to make this team.

But I do agree in a sense.. makes me wish I could make it to a couple of camp days.. own eyes so to speak.

Yeah, I want to here it from McCarthy or Trgovac and not some observation by McGinn. No one more than Harrell knows he has to show beyond a doubt he can stay healthy and is worth the chance they would be taking on a roster spot.
I would be very hardpressed to believe he is blowing by not showing the effort. Observing his behavior in between plays doesn't mean much to me and getting on him for what appeared to be an effort issue on one play doesn't either.

Hey, the guy is still standing after a live scrimmage. It's a start.

Wade, McGinn didn't base his opinion off of that picture. He didn't even post that pcture with his story. I found that picture somewhere else.

His opinion is based off of what he has seen in camp so far, from the sideline. Of course, you would have known that if you would have actually read the article.

I'm hoping he's wrong as we could really use the depth. Plus, deep down inside, I'm hoping our former 1st round pick amounts to something (as a Packer of course).

I guess we'll see. I'll try to reserve judgment until the season starts.

I get that everyone wants to hate Harrell, but this is kind of dumb. The big 320 pound guy is having trouble with the heat? Who would have thunk it? Seriously, the "lack of effort" he's supposedly showing is coming in between his practice reps. I don't know about you guys, but as long as he's giving 100% DURING his practice reps (and nothing I've read so far says he isn't) I don't care if he takes has to take a knee to catch his breath.

This is really a bad showing from the Green Bay media. Can't critique Harrell for being injured so they have to get on him for taking a knee in between reps.
