Green Bay - Donald Driver signed a contract extension just moments ago that will keep the Packers' all-time receptions leader with the franchise through 2012.

"Its been going on for awhile," Driver said of negotiations. "Now its done and Im happy about it. Now Im a Green Bay Packer for life."

Driver's contract was due to expire after this season. Terms of the deal are not yet known. Driver was scheduled to make a base salary of $4 million and a roster bonus of $2.8 million this year, the last year of his current contract.

"Since last year we talked about it, and they agreed to try to get a deal done," he said. "We got it done and now Im going to reitre as a Packer. Thats something I dreamed of for a long time. Now its here and my wife and kids love it.

"I went upstairs with the family and signed our extension so we know were going to retire here. When its all said and done Ill be in green and gold."

Driver will be 38 when the contract ends and he said he could still pursue his dream of playing to 40. But he said the newest extension, the fourth of his career, will take him to a spot where if his body says it's time to quit, he'll listen.

"it gets to a point where you realize you want to be here for your whole career," Driver said. "Whatever it is, accept it and play it out and if you still feel like you want to play at that time you can. I sat down and talked to my wife what I wanted to do. If the Lord tells me at 38 when this contract is up to continue playing I will. If not, Ill retire."

Driver, who is entering his 13th season, eclipsed Sterling Sharpe as the franchise receptions leader last season. He needs 607 yards to pass James Lofton in receiving yardage.

"Ive always had dreams that the great guy who wore the number before me and hopefully I can stay here and break his record and one day that jersey will never be worn again," he said.
