[quote="4PackGirl"] it's a decision that alot of unemployed people wish they could make.

I kind of wish I had a better opportunity right now. My last day at work will be Wednesday. I've been at this place 15 years. Now I'm going to be looking for work again and I live in Michigan (no jobs here) with a son about to start College at Western Michigan University. My only opportunities are out of state. One very good opportunity just happens to be in Greenbay.I would be over 4 other designers. But... That means moving away from my son. I just can't bring myself to do that. I turned down the job so I could stay close to him.

Anyway. With your daughter being as young as she is it's the best time to move. Kids make friends fast. Once they become teens it's harder to pry them away from what they have become accustom too and the friends they have grown up with.

Well Zombie. I took the 70 year old me's advice and turned down the supervisors job. I'm taking the money and leaving. There are other designers jobs out there and I'm going to get one of them.

Cheers.

What do you design? TShirts? Hats? Hoodies? By chance? ;)

Didn't even see this post. Sorry about that.

I design packaging. I design everything from point of purchase displays you see in store endcaps to cartons that ship overseas with 2 V6 engines in them for Ford.

Oh yeah.....One more thing. I did turn down a job in Green Bay to work for Green Bay Packaging. As much as I would love to live in Green Bay I don't see me moving in the near future.

Just looking through old post and came across this. I forgot about it .

Quick update.

I took the money and left. I paid off a bunch of things with the severence package and am buying a new car. I need a new car because my new job is a 68 mile one way drive. That's 136 miles a day to and from work. I'm looking for something that gets 30 plus miles per gallon.

The main thing is I am working again at the same pay as the job I left plus I paid off a number of things and still banked a pretty good sum of money for my sons college.

I just hope the drive doesn't get to me. Especially in the West Michigan winter.

How far do you drive to work? (Really...I am curious.)

I started taking a new route to work avoid towns for time.. the days I don't have to pick up the kids from Daycare and school.. 76 miles round trip... days with kids picked up.. 88 miles round trip.. so not as bad.. but still takes a chunk of the day.

But most of the time.. that is the only "quiet" time I get so I soak it in. 😉

Isn't there anyone out there driving an hour one way?

The cars you guys are picking out are a bit above my pay grade.
I'm looking more towards a 4 cylinder front wheel drive with no bells and whistles daily driver. Something like a Ford Escort or VW Jetta. Something like that. I'm not trading anything in. At that point I will have 5 cars in my driveway. All are in my name. It's all about quantity. Not quality. 🙂

1.5 KM bike ride to work. 1.5 KM bike ride to the bus station. Then an hour long tour of 1/6th of the country to get to school.

But, anyway, Jettas are cool. My step-dad used to drive a 1997 one. Very reliable and decent car. Then again, that goes for nearly all VW's.

If you feel like you want to save the environment and look like Batman while doing it, though, check out this car.

36 feet from my bed to my office chair, if I wake up on the near side of the bed. It's a tad bit longer of a commute if I'm on the far side, so I try and plan accordingly. :tongue3:

wpr (8h) : Only 4
Zero2Cool (11h) : If only we had a topic to read about and discuss it. That's something new website must have!!!
dfosterf (11h) : Justice Musqueda over at Acme Packing put up an excellent synopsis of the Packers 1st round options this am
wpr (19-Apr) : 5 days
beast (18-Apr) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
