How would defenses react to a two TE formation? What kind of personnel changes will they make to account for both the added run-blocking and the fact that J Finley still needs corner-quality coverage? Obviously everybody is excited about the spread formations due to our WR depth and J. Finley's abilities. On the other hand, my uneducated guess is that a two-TE formation could give just as favorable matchups I'm not just talking about passing, but running as well. If J Finley and another TE line up in a run-friendly formation and the defense keeps a third CB for coverage than it seems like Grant should be able to run roughshod. OTOH, if they line up a linebacker on Finley it would set up a favorable scenario for a passing play, especially play action. I'm interested in hearing what you guys think about this.

Makes a lot of sense to me.

I have fond memories when the Packers had two good tight ends in Jackson and Chmura.

Unless both TEs can run block, the two TE set does nothing except potentially put a weaker receiver in the lineup. With the depth we have at WR, would you want to have Nelson on the bench with Lee in as the second TE? If we can't sell the run with two TEs, then it isn't worth a darn thing imho.

Tezzy brings up a very valid point, especially when you consider our WR's are actually very good blockers, i don't think it would be crazy to say someone like Nelson is actually a better blocker than Finley, however i can't really back that up with... You know... Facts =)

Visions of Finley's perfectly-executed chip block where he flat out leveled a guy(it was someone pretty good too) last year pop up whenever i think of Finley blocking tho!

I really hope this year they put a lot of focus on Finley and Quarless's blocking skills. They are both freak's athletically and will only get better in the receiving game, but if they can sell the run too it would be deadly.

That would be sweet. But you have to have TWO TE's that are feared.
Only one, and it won't work. They would just concentrate on Finley.

Ive seen other various teams run this formation against us - usually in short yardage run plays or things like that. I seem to recall at least 1 game last year the announcers talking about a 2 TE set.
Always wanted us to try that one out.

I believe a 2 TE set has been a part of the Packers offense for years. They probably use it in most games. If it gave them a big advantage, they would use it more often. It's mostly just a change-of-pace type of thing.

I'm fine with Finley improving his blocking as long as he doesn't bulk up too much to do it. I've seen this happen with other receiving tight ends in the past--I'm thinking of Tyrone Davis and David Martin--and when they bulked up to improve their blocking they lost their speed and became mediocre receivers.

We will have two good TEs, Finley and Quarless. Quarless may not be ready imediately but I think by the middle of the season he'll will be contributing. Two TEs are deadly and I think we will have two. This is even more true with a mobil QB. I recall TDs off of broken plays with Chewy and Jackson.

I heard that Jordy was our best blocker at WR but I don't know if he's better than Finley. Of course, Jordy is matched up against a CB instead of an OLB.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
