Ok, all this week I've been taking DG (Dangerous Goods.. aka Hazardous Materials) and DG Spill Clean up classes at FedEx's corporate offices at the Minneapolis airport. My instructor is a guy from Milwaukee. He's a big Packer/Badger/WI sports fan. Yesterday (Tuesday), he wore a Badger polo to class. Early in the day, somehow we (instructor, 2 other guys and me) got on the subject of sports. Then he brought up Favre and how he was so glad we (MN) are dealing with him and how much of a diva he is, etc. Then I mentioned that despite my hatred for the Pack, there's no team higher on my hate list than the Badgers. He mentioned how that was kinda weird and how his favorite team to hate was the Vikings. Then offered to bring us to WI to show us what a Lombardi trophy looked like. Obviously, at this point.. we weren't best of friends. Nothing got heated.. all of this was in fun (I was smiling/chuckling the whole time).. I then said how nice and dandy that was and asked if he knew what a National Championship trophy looked like. He seemed honestly perplexed that Minnesota had one. I educated him how we had 6. Even some of the Minnesotans in class (there were only 3 of them of the 7 of us) were surprised at that number. I also stated that the last one was in the 60s. Nonetheless.. Minnesota still has 6 National Championships. Mr. Instructor tried to downplay them, saying they shouldn't count. I said I would agree to that as long as we take away 3 Lombardi's from the Pukers.. But since there's only 3 Lombaris being taken away, to be fair we can only take away 3 National Championships.
He still argued that if the last Championship the Gophers won was in 1960, it was before ANYONE who was in the room's time. Everyone kinda chuckled.. but I was kinda shocked. He looks older than he actually is. If he was born in '61, that makes him 4 or 5 years younger than my dad.. and my dad looks FAR younger than him. I proceeded to insert my foot in my mouth with my exclamation "You look WAAAY older than that!!" Of course, now I just made it personal. Unintentionally, of course. The damage was already done. Too bad no one bothered to tell my mouth because I kept trying to back track, and ended up digging a bigger and deeper hole. I eventually gave it up when the instructor said something on the lines of how great I made him feel and all that stuff. The rest of the day we playfully went back and forth.
Today, our regional head of DG came into class to see how things were going.. 5 of the 7 of us were in the room (the other 2 were doing other work outside of the room), and he asked Mr. Instructor how we were doing and all that. Instructor started bragging on us (as a class, probably for brownie points) and said that the 5 that were in the room at the time were the brightest inspiring-DG specialists he's ever had. Wasn't long when he looked my way and said.. "Notice I didn't look at Jeremy when I said that.." and started up the playful war of words. My only comment back was, "I was waiting for a comment about me.." Flash forward about 5 minutes, the regional leadDG asked if the instructor touched on a certain subject. Mr. Instructor piped in and said that we did and said, "they'll even vouch for me.. we did talk about that".. At that point, I saw my opportunity to give him a jab. Instead I chose not to and vouched for him instead. Following my confirmation I tossed in, "I was heavily debating on tossing you under the bus there Mr. Instructor.. You owe me." The rest of the afternoon, we continued our cute little war of words. Tomorrow's our test for the DG Specialist part of the course and he told us before we left everything about the test for tomorrow (but the answers) and said that he promises that's how the answers/scenarios will play out. Then mentioned, "Well, Jeremy's test will be different."
So, discuss.. Am I doomed or no?
Thanks to TheViking88 for the sig!!
