If you are from Wisconsin, it is time for some trout, salmon, perch fishing on Lake Michigan. Now there is plenty of good fishing everywhere in WI in summer, but Lake Michigan offers some really great fishing from shore for next to nothing for cost.

Basically, you catch your bait from the lake, and then soak it and use a beer bottle as an alarm when you have a fish on the line. And you really have a shot @ a 10-15 lb fish.

Check out this dudes catch, if you love to fish, this is quite the catch. Just wish dude let it go

I spent one summer fishing off the south metro pier, down by Oak Creek. I'll tell you, it was some of the wildest fishing i ever had! I caught a couple 20 pounders that summer, and many 7-10 pounders.
One day, i was fishing next to a guy. We were both using dead smelt as bait. He threw his out, put his fishing rod down on the pier, and had not even straightened up, when "WEEEEEEE!!!"........off his rod shot into the lake! We watched it slowly go deeper and deeper........he turned, looked at me, and said "You know.......I SHOULD have known better.......that's the SECOND time that has happened to me!"
Another time, i was watching these 2 brothers fishing. They looked and acted like they were straight out of the movie "Deliverance". They had fishing gear that looked brand new! (Maybe back in 1947, that is).
Well, the one dropped his rod off the pier. He was FRANTIC! The water is deep there, and HUGE rocks. His brother took his pole and started trying to "fish" for his brother's rod. I had to hold back from laughing. It looked more like a comedy sketch. After about 15 minutes, i hear the guy yell "I think i got it!!!" What does he pull up? A BEAUTIFUL NEW ROD AND REEL!!! NOT kidding!

lol, funny post, i've had to fish my nephews pole out of lakes a few times. i get a kick out of some of the mong and hispanic ppl down there. they have big families, and will literally have 20 poles in the water for each family. a married couple with three kids, and a friend, there ya go 20 poles....

got to admit, some of those dudes can really fish.

I tried casting lures 2 day, did not do so well. next week, back to soaking live bait , i want a king for a bbq next weekend, judging by your post, you know how tasty those king salmon can be.

Looks like a Lake Michigan Sucker to me!!! LOL That's about the same size as one I caught on the Wisconsin River near Eagle River way back in 1959 on a Daredevil with no leader. Got it mounted and I'm looking at it right now as I type this.

Fishing stories...I love them.

Here's my contribution.

When I was a kid, we almost always fished for panfish. (It's still my favorite kind of fishing....sitting lazily on the lake, and IMO no fish tastes better than those little sunfish/bluegills with the occasional crappie thrown in.)

But anyway, fishing for panfish inevitably meant dealing with the occasional bullhead. I knew people who swore by pickled bullhead, but to us they were just a pain in the ass. Too bony to bother with, soft and squishy meat when fried, and of course as a little kid those catfish like spines scared us. And on top of it all, the damn things always swallowed the hook.

The latter meant we always kept a pair of pliers in the tackle box, technically for general purposes, but primarily to pull those hooks out of the goddamn bullheads. So anyway, early one evening, less than an hour before dark, ordinaily prime fishing time, we got a run of bullheads. Which was pissing us all (my father, my late brother, and I) off.

After about the fifth or sixth one, my brother had enough, and after pulling the hook off, threw the thing as far as he could from a sitting position in a rowboat. And being just about the perfect weight, did that thing fly. To my 10-year-old eyes it seemed a mile, though I'm sure it was only 50-60 feet.

Problem was, my brother still held the bullhead in his hands.

That far away plunk was our pliers.

From that moment on, whenever we passed through that part of the lake, we always talked about stopping see if we could catch that "pliers" again.

Dad and brother are both gone now, and I haven't been panfishing in a couple decades, Iowa being devoid of lakes and even more devoid of people who I know who are interested in panfishing.

Damn, but I miss those days.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I'm a hard-core pan fisherman. I'd post some pics, b/c WI has some phenomenal pan-fishing, not to mention the perch in Lake Michigan, but it'd drive ya nuts.

I tell ya though, after ya haul in a 15lb king on 10 lb test... catching a 10" Bluegill on 4lb test kinda loses its thrill.

usually for the first Packer game I m able to provide both panfish from an inner lake, and a trout or salmon from lake Michigan.

I have more fishing stories then i can count.
One summer back in the 1960's my family was spending a week at a northwoods cabin. (We did that every summer)
One time, my Dad caught a nice sized walleye. We had several nice panfish too. Had them all on a metal stringer. Well, it was time to go in, and my Dad started up the outboard and off we went! Problam was, Dad forgot to pull in the stringer full of fish. Just the time he thought of it, it pulled loose and dropped into about 20 feet of water. GONE!
Next day, we were fishing in the same area. My Mom said "I'm gonna try to find the stringer from yesterday." I was maybe 7 years old, and thought "Yeah.....good luck with that!" Wouldn't you know, about 20 minutes later, she says "I think i may have hooked it!" I couldn't believe it, up comes the stringer! All the fish were eaten by something, except tha walleye.
So i got to net the same fish 2 days in a row!

beast (9h) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (9h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (14h) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (14h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (15h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (15h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (15h) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (15h) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (18h) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (19h) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league
dfosterf (7-Aug) : out on a field trip, outfitting them with little yellow smocks. Most of the little folk were well behaved, but several were like trying
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Yesterday my wife and I spent the afternoon on the waterfront here in Alexandria, Va. A daycare company took about 15 three/four year olds
wpr (7-Aug) : seems faster. yay
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Wife of reason posted on the in/out thread on fleaflicker that both she and vor are in

Mucky Tundra (7-Aug) : Tbh, I can never tell the difference in speed unless it's completely shitting the bed
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Sure does feel like site is more snappy
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Hey i didn't know we could trade picks in fantasy
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Update: Rock has tried a cheese curd, promises it's not his last
Zero2Cool (3-Aug) : watch it!! lol
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : you're right, we never did leave, the site just went down :P
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Rock claims to have never eaten a cheese curd
Zero2Cool (3-Aug) : We did not leave.
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Family Night! WE ARE SO BACK!
Mucky Tundra (2-Aug) : To this day, I'm still miffed about his 4 TD game against Dallas on Thanksgiving going to waste
Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
