I remember Mike McCarthy saying he felt Alex was more athletic than Aaron was.

Certainly learning from Brett Favre helped. Not to say Favre taught Rodgers. I think it's safe to say he didn't go out of his way to teach him, but Rodgers got to watch film with Favre, practice with Favre, and observe him on the sidelines. That all helped.

Brett did most of his film watching on his laptop at his house.

I heard that as well, but they most certainly watched film in team meetings. Whether it's practice film or game film.

I think the McCarthy quote wasn't so much "I screwed up with Alex Smith" but "It was unfortunate what we did with Alex Smith, not having the option to let him study and learn before throwing him in the fire. With Rodgers he was able to sit and learn and take it all in".... I might be making this all up, but thats how i remember it.

I recall Mike McCarthy being questioned 'Do you think Alex would have similar success as Aaron if in the same situation' to which he responded with a general answer that most QB's would as its a better situation than being thrown to the fire.

MM. If it was up to Sherman and Rosseley to develop Arodge, he'd have been screwed.

I wouldn't give any credit to Favre. Except as an example of what not to do. Rodgers watched the '05 and '06 seasons where he turned the ball over 59 times, had a rating in the low 70s and went 12-20 . They were Favres worst. He also is not a technician and relies heavily on his arm and not his head. He has what every analyst has called poor mechanics. He also plays on emotion, which is why he can be so hot-cold at times.

But Favre IS a technician. He is a master at reading defenses, and he almost always knows where his receivers are and can hit them in stride. He does get emotional and impatient at times, though. I agree with that part.

I think Brett was/is more of a master at reacting to a defense, than reading them. That's just a thought from re-watching the games he played in though. No real definitive thought process or analyzing.

I would agree early in his career. He did seem to react much better. However, later in his career he became very good at reading defenses. Kinda scary good. The record breaking touchdown that he threw to Jennings was a great example. He read the defense, adjusted the route, and hit Jennings in stride. Favre's mechanics were never perfect as the new member says, but he had the type of natural talent where he could get away with it.
