Here's a very positive article on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers from Don Banks of Sports Illustrated. Take it for what it's worth, but I figure anything that keeps Banks from writing about the Vikings is a good thing:

"Last year taught us some things. We came out of training camp looking like no one could stop us. I didn't get sacked once all preseason and we were rolling. But I think maybe we got a little too confident, too prideful, and we took a beatdown in the first half of the season. We had to figure out how to get back to that feeling [of August], and we finally did.''

This is precisely what I was saying going into last season. The team was overconfident. It appears that the Packers have accepted responsibility and learned from their mistake. That is very encouraging for the up and coming season.

I enjoyed the overall tone of this article (I'm always pleased when the pundits are positive about my beloved team), but it isn't hard to point out that there wasn't an original sentence anywhere in this piece. Indeed, the whole thing was clichd to an extreme.

Mainly, I just can't wait for the day when every author who decides to spill ink on Aaron Rodgers doesn't feel the spastic need to first preface his name with that of his predecessor's. It's been three years. Try a new angle, already.

Yes, I remember that. You called it. I didn't want to believe it at the time, but it turned out to be true.

Do you ever NOT complain about an article? At least there weren't any grammatical errors in this one, were there?

Seriously, the article was full of original quotes from Aaron Rodgers about what happened early last season and how the team turned things around. And it is entirely relevant, and always will be relevant, that Rodgers replaced Brett Favre. The point the writer makes is that when Rodgers became the starting QB, he had a very big obstacle to overcome right off the bat, and he handled it very well. It's a fairly obvious point, but a significant one.

I didn't phrase myself well. My real objection to the article was the Favre reference. As I said in another post, other than that I loved it. When I said it was clichd, I said it in the same spirit as how I say, after walking out of a chick flick, "That was the sappiest, most clichd movie I've ever seen, but somehow I loved it anyway." šŸ™‚

you know...non, there will never be a time where #4 ain't mentioned along with Rodgers. this brand's for life. just as with Steve Young. after time, it'll happen less...but it's never going away. especially if, like Young, Rodgers becomes a legend himself. things like that don't happen very often so you can rest assured it will be talked about...incessantly.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Doesn't mean I have to like it, and I will always respect authors who find a way no to dredge up that angle more than those who reach for it as an easy way to pad their word count.
